I liked Logan’s Run, I did. But I can’t get past the fact that one character in book and film is so forgetful that the two main characters are held at knifepoint and are relying on her to clear their names by reminding her of shit that literally just happened and the forgetful one just goes “oh yeah, that did happen”. They could straight up lie (but didn’t) and goldfish girl would agree because she didn’t remember.

AND Ron Silver. Gotta show love for the Silver. But, yes, that's the one.
And sure, Arrival was good. It was well shot, the CGI is lightyears better, the acting was better, the budget bigger, the plot was nuanced and fascinating, there was a more realistic alien contact scenario, it had time travel...and yet...AND YET...it still didn't have Charlie Sheen OR Ron Silver--plus, not a single character's knees bent backwards the whole movie!

I have seen Ergo Proxy. That's a great one. I need to watch it again, because it has been a long while.
Texhnolyze is weird, and slow, and brutal at times. The weird ones are the ones I am most drawn to, like Lain, or Gasaraki.

Friends and I watched in college at the theater when we couldn’t agree on a movie blind with no expectations.
All of us left stunned, not knowing how to process the movie but knowing it was phenomenal. I still listen to the soundtrack while working

I just recently watched this one with high hopes based on the actors in it. Came out kinda disappointed since it seemed pretty predictable. Wanted more out of their characters. Renner kinda just seemed along for the ride.

#1 I loved, LOVED Arrival. My partner HATES IT. If anyone ever mentions it she goes off on how it was stupid. I love her, and she is amazing. just not a hard-core or lofty sci-fi fan. She prefers magic and dragons, so its OK, but oh heck do we have different opinions on this

I've found it is often a divisive film. I know people who hated it, or loved it. I personally loved it, but other feelings on the movie are just as valid.

I wanted to like Looper but I can't get over the fact that the time travel aspect of it is totally contradictory. The movie makes no sense.

Yeah, the kid grows up to be Rainmaker in the original timeline where Joe closes his loop and lives the 15 year 'retirement' before he gets sent back. So he wasn't involved that time so it's still gonna happen.

Look, changing the past either creates a new timeline or it doesn't because the timeline is static and cannot be changed despite the existence of time travel. You can't have it both ways. Looper mixed two mutually exclusive interpretations of how time travel works in the same story.

Exactly; Rainmaker existed in the Willis-future to send Joe back but Willis-Joe closed his loop so he never ended up in the cornfield shooting Cid (Rainmaker) the first time.

Sorry I misunderstood what you said. I was fuzzy on the details of the movie since I was so pissed off after watching it, I blocked most of it out of my memory. I just remember them mixing the two concepts when it suited the plot and I just couldn't accept it and enjoy the story.

Same. I’ve really liked Jeremy Renner’s work for decades, and wanted to like this movie but it was predictable. Not a fault of him or Amy Adams, but the writers. The premise had potential but just could’ve been handled better.

The Aliens communicate in time rather than language. They live their lives in a perceptual non-sequitor so as the movie unfolds we're treated to interludes that are actually different points in time of the main character's life. She isn't married to Renner and doesn't have a kid at the start or end of the film but experiences her future in the sequence we see them in the movie so she can use that knowledge to help her in her current time.

So when China is ready to nuke one of the ships; she experiences a point of her future life when the Chinese general meets her and remenises about the time she randomly called him. Then gets his number so she can randomly call him in the present. It's like Picard's experience in 'All Good Things'.

You should watch it and come to your own conclusion. It got 94% on rotten tomatoes. Don’t let a few ppl tell you it’s not good. I loved it. Just rewatched it again today cuz all these posts reminded me of it.

It's in my top ten. And when I've discussed with people the reasons why they don't like it, it was generally because they ignored the deepness of something in particular and instead thought we all were supposed to be taken in by something like its any basic sci-fi, which it isn't. An expectation thing maybe? Idk. I can watch it right now and be fully immersed.
