Am I just too smart to have money?

Lord of the rings will be public domain january 1st 2024. Looking forward to that!

This is so stupid it hurts

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Little known fact: the "block" in blockchain refers to the shape of cryptobros' heads.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Its hilarious how fervent NFT victims are about it. Its like their entire life now revolves around them and getting others to use them.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Almost like a pyramid scheme, or a cult.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It would be funny, if I wasn't in need of a new GPU. Fuck NFT bros and also everybody that jumped on the crypto hype train

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You're just mad you missed out and didn't make bank like my buddy Karl./s

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some guy just made several lifetimes earnings on his grandads copy of Dune.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Conclusive proof that even the NFT lovers don't understand them

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

What's that from?

Clue

"Why do people hate us so much? We just wanna burn books to make money!"

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

It sounds more like they think they’re the only ones who’s ever seen this version and plan to expand the “dune universe” either way, lol no

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We're at the beginning of something exceedingly dumb. This won't stop now.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I got some pictures of photos of Beanie Babies that I can sell you the record of you buying them.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Don't forget... These kids managed to get together 2.5m... Let that sink in....

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

12 million USD. Of which they got scammed 8 million by Soban Saqib.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So if I buy a Lambo, take a pic of it in my driveway then blow it up, my pic will be worth more than what I paid for the car? Genius!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

“Hey, Kyle should we call a copyright attorney?”——-Naw dude, Tanner’s buddy Bryce is a bad ass lawyer, he said it’s good to go.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So, not one of the SpiceDAO bothered to do some background legal research into copyright laws and historical cases?? Like isn't that step 1

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Kind of the whole principal behind NFT. They have no clue what they’re doing apart from the money launderers and scammers.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Some NFTs give copyright, some don't. I think there must be more to this, b/c the idea they'd have bought without checking the rights would

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

be genuinely mind-boggling

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

NFTS DO NOT GIVE COPYRIGHT. An NFT is a serialized number. Submitting paperwork to copyright authority gives you copyright.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's not how artwork works, no. When you create a work of art, it's automatically yours, by international law. Some (specific, it's in the

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

legal documents) NFTs come with copyright for art, usually made specifically *for* the NFT system.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

about a dumb as the people who think that an NFT skin from minecraft will just somehow work in CoD as well

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Who the hell would think that lmao

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

One of the initiators of that shit Soban Saqib, the guy who scammed them all is trying to sell this at expopulus

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You'd be surprised how many nft bros think it's that simple. Shows how little they understand about how things work.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's frighteningly dumb

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park seems to be in on that thinking; https://twitter.com/mikeshinoda/status/1479880221822054400

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

some guy on twitter, apparently

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hmm, wonder if I can DM him and say if he uploads the deed to his house to me I can mint it and he can move his house anywhere in the world

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So I guess my question is, who tf were they bidding against that the price got driven up to 2.66 million?

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

same thing I've been wondering.. I'd like for it to have been some troll who knew ahead of time the highest amount they were willing to bid.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably themselves through different wallet addresses "OH FUCK SOMEONE BID HIGHER" "MATCH IT" "WAIT THAT WAS ME"

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Or themselves, on purpose, thinking it'll pay off with all the nft bullshit they wanted to do

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can just offer any stupid sum over the last bid if you wish.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One of the weird facts about DAO is that they are public. So if you know a DAO is bidding on X, you know how much money it has (1/n)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This means, that if you actually want the item, you can easily determine the price at which the DAO cant bid (see ConstitutionDAO) (2/n)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In other situations you might want to drive up the price (say you have another copy of the work). In this case, you know how much to (3/n)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bid, such that you will be the second highest, becuase you know how much the DAO can bid. (4/4)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is as adorable as it is stunningly stupid

4 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

"Thuddingly ignorant"?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Good call +1

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why do I get the impression they did absolutely no research on the idea before launching headfirst into the wall of spikes before them.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Well, of course… Then after "investing" in NFTs, they went on to buy a copy of a book…

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There’s got to be more to this. I refuse to accept people can be this freaking stupid and uneducated. But then…Covid reactions in the US…

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

As an American, I know we have lots of idiots, but there has been worldwide idiocy regarding Covid everywhere. (That wasn’t my downvote btw)

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

In a press release which is still up on their discord they said they know they don't own the rights they were using this auction to get...

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

the rights holders attention and say "we are willing to throw ridiculous piles of money at the series" https://discord.com/invite/SPICEDAO

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Well then someone should tell them 2.66M is not much in film/TV production terms.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but its a lot for a book that you can view 95% of online for free, which is why it was a "attention getter"

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They spent £2.6m to get rights holders’ attention? That sounds even worse! What happened to change.org and letter-writing campaigns?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

NFTs. how to advertise you are a moron without saying you are a moron. i so want the whole of crypto to just die. i know it wont, but....

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I heard there might be an attempt to tax these things which could deter some people from doing them. Don't know if it's true or not though.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

oh of course its gonna get taxed. if its making money, but lacking in any form of organized and wealthy lobbyists, its only a matter of time

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It will die, when we no longer have a reliable power grid or internet.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

... allow me to amend my wish; that it would die on its utter lack orf merits, not because society collapsed.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My aging GPU and desire to build a new PC, also wish crypto would die.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wish it would die, but it ll just get worse. Evidently we will our art to cryptobros and their fetish to make it digital only.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

* lose our art dangit

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How the F do people that stupid have that much money?

4 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 1

Hey, every lottery millionaire is a person who thought it was a smart investment to play the lottery.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, you *must* be new around here. Wealth and intelligence are absolutely *not* correlated.

4 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 1

Don't forget that you can be insanely good at one thing and still be a drooling imbecile in every other topic. Talent alone isn't enough.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

it's not their money, that's just money from people stupid enough to buy their NFTs

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Only way to make sense of this is money laundering and group leaders stealing money.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Tried & true method of making stupid people famous, which makes you wonder who is the stupid in that equation?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

there's Logan Paul who spent 3.5 mil on pokemon cards that turned out to be fake

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've only heard about this but it just feels like a PR stunt. Maybe it wont if I'd read the articles.. but I really don't wanna..

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't have to be smart, just be in the top half of the pyramid

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It makes me happy to see fools and their money get parted like this.

4 years ago | Likes 1237 Dislikes 6

It makes me sad that you can't just make animated series of whatever you want... Especially a book written over 50 yeas ago.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

It's morally wrong to let people like this keep their money.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's probably daddy's money. If they have 3 mil to throw around, they probably had plenty more where that came from.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I wish someone would introduce me to these fools. I have a whole lot of nothing to sell!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hate that people have money like this to spare of senseless shit while... Gestures

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure this is just money laundering.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's the way I was seeing it. I refuse to believe they are this dumb and this is just to sell the story.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well the money just passes to other fools

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look up how much energy this shit wastes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was with you up until the part about burning the book.

4 years ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 0

I literally screamed no when I read that part... Woke up bf and dog lol

4 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 1

Same. IDGAF what you want to do with the digital copies of a book, but if you torch the pages of the PHYSICAL copy, I'm going to need bail.

4 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

You don't need bail. You were hanging out with me that night, remember? We played Smash Bros and ordered pizza from that one place.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yea but like, they are that dumb AND have the money to do this shit...

4 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Some of the stupidest people I know work in finance and banking. Not small time stuff either.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If these braindead babies are so willing to toss around that kind of cash, slide some my way. I have bills to pay!!

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Make bullshart NonFunctionalTokers?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have some thrashy paperback novels from my grandma if they are interested in investing in the romance category too!

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I don't understand. Who was bidding against them at the auction to drive the price that high up?

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Rich collectors. Or money launderers.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A Hero.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I posted another comment, but with a DAO, you know how much money they have to bid with. Thus, it is almost risk-free to drive up the (1/x)

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

price. So let's say you own the same book, or maybe other DUNE memorobilia. Driving up the price of this auction potentially sets a (2/x)

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

higher expectation for future DUNE auctions (i.e. your collection). Normally this type of up-bidding would come at a risk of you winning 3/x

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But with a DAO, you can kind of know how much they are willing to bid, and so can drive up the price of the auction riskfree (4/4)

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the explanation :D

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So by "technically innovative" they meant "use a scanner" and by "culturally disruptive" they meant "limit public access"

4 years ago | Likes 154 Dislikes 0

Oh oh oh! I know 'disruptive' in a commerce context means something that upsets the norm, like the iPod! This is just plain stupid.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

BuZz wOrDs MaKEe SoUnD sMaRt!!1!

4 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Does anyone else detect a slight colonial narcissism-

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Everyone here is calling this stupid, but its so stupid that it cant possibly be real, isnt it? this has to be money laundering

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

how? laundering money through art normally involves buying one-of-a-kind pieces that, by purchasing for an absurd amount, you can claim are→

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

→therefore worth that absurd amount. to my understanding, this book is rare but other copies exist, so it already has, more or less, a set→

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

→"value." paying approximately 100× the supposed value of such an object just doesn't make sense to me from a money laundering perspective.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe the buyer is involved, and thus the money never left anyone’s pockets but did get laundered

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, all NFT are public released, """ownership""" is not but you can get the url of all of them lol

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why not invest in Dutch Tulips? People thought they were worth something....

4 years ago | Likes 306 Dislikes 2

As someone who grows and sells rare flowers as a side hobby, they’re ABSOLUTELY worth something, rich people have too much money

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

I'd rather invest in dutch tulips, at least those are pretty

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Tulip mania. One of many great recorded bubbles. Gordon gecko has an awesome framed illustration in Wall Street 2.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Why not a rose on a piano, then?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I prefer tulips on an organ, m'self.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Now this is a cultured reference.

4 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 1

Yup, in every single NFT post.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Benefits of a classical education.... I could discuss men's suits all day

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

I hear they were delicious.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Don’t forget the collectible coins too

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry, did they say they'd fucking BURN THE BOOK?!

4 years ago | Likes 600 Dislikes 0

Burning an NFT is like burning crypto coins, meaning they put the tokens in a state where they are impossible to resell or retrieve

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Dont worry about dipshit here, he always uses one word sentences "and says "you're an idiot". He needs to grow a brain cause his vocab sucks

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Holy shit it's funny check it out it it's just endless brainlet comments, how sad.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, and don't think this will stop at books, think art, music masters, etc.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean if I had to destroy one person's adaptation of the novel, that'd be the one.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To me it read like trolling, someone trying to make them burn the book they just paid a stupid amount of money for… :)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there's like around 10 to 20 copies of the same book, quite rare but not super rare and the going price (normally) is up to 40K

4 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Historical/political implications aside, yes, that's the mindset of an investor-collector, i.e. someone who only cares about the financial->

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

<- benefit, not the objects themselves. In fact, they may despise the object if its existence negatively impacts their return-on-investment

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Relax, it's already got an online backup and multiple other copies. Plus, honestly, the storyboard of a movie that never got out of

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

production isn't exactly high on the 'Important things that must be preserved' list. It didn't even have any big drama or anything like that

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

, the filmmaker was just too ambitious and didn't get funding. Still a stupid thing for them to do, but not exactly HERESY.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Burning a book that only has around 10-20 other existing copies would be a loss, regardless how you want to spin your argument.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yes. A loss to the teeny tiny number of people who actually care about a failed attempt at making a movie 50 years ago. There’s a reason

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't care what book it is, you don't burn books...

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s already online so, meh

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 10

of course man gotta pump up the value of the NFT!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Burning refers to destroying a digital token or copy. Usually to increase scarcity to drive up value. These guys aren't very bright.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's like someone tried to teach a trading concept to a pre schooler who can't understand the difference between derivitives and a commodity

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe they meant burn like how we burned CDs back in the day?

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Nah, there was a real painting that got converted in an nft and than they burned the original, so that nft remain the only copy. Same here.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

But they don’t have the only copy of the book.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not about the only copy, it's about the only "legitimate", OG, certified copy (which still isn't the only one in this case). 1/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People can still easily copy such art, since it's digital; nft just means you own that art piece, but anyone can still use it. Idiocy.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t worry, they only have a picture of a matchbook.

4 years ago | Likes 300 Dislikes 1

They only have a picture of the receipt for the matchbook, the shop kept the actual matches

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you know how much each JPG of a match is worth?! They may be book burning scum, but they're not getting rid of their ugly match JPGs!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They might also have a picture of fire though!

4 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Thankfully, it's only a picture of Fyre festival.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Burning the book then thinking they have the only readable copy. That sounds to stupid to be real. Their heads are too buried in NFT world

4 years ago | Likes 134 Dislikes 2

This is incorrect. It means putting it in an untradable space for the token

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*too

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Meanwhile, they'd be doing the very reprehensible thing of burning a book. Assholes.

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

Well that's the logic of a scumbag collector too - destroy all instances of a collectible except one (their own) to increase rarity=value.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Like when Kaiba ripped Yugi's grandfather's Blue Eyes White Dragon card! Rich bastard.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Woooow uhh yeah exactly like that.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Given the lack of sources it may not be real? I get that people are being idiots with this NFT thing, but this seems a bit far fetched.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I take it back, the forum links are dead but the twitter posts are real. I guess they are just complete idiots.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I immediately went to Twitter first.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because it sounded so stupid.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
