While it's true Star Trek has always been political, I do believe the modern writers miss the subtlety and nuance in how the older 1/2

2/3 writers tackled those issues, which caused a lot of people to change their minds on those issues by looking at them a different way.

Yeah, I'm sorry "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" is as subtle as a dropped anvil. TOS bashed people over the head with the messages hard.
