It's like a scale/spectrum to me. There are movies that have Christmas in them, movies set at Christmas, and lastly full-on "Christmas movies." The last one usually involve some sort of change of heart directly in connection with Christmas- a greedy person turning generous, or someone not believing in Santa etc. and then believing. Also there's usually some sort of miracle, and often the change of heart itself is the miracle. That's my take on it.
