My family kinda does presents by request so I told my mom I wanted to see The Mandalorian and Grogu with her. I'm a huge Mando fan, and wanted to go tonight instead of tomorrow.
Greatly enjoyed it. I was interested in seeing it since, obviously, it's the Mando so people always have OPINIONS. It's always been exactly up my alley. I just wanted to see for myself of course.
Out of all the major complaints, the one I thought was least founded: "it's like they took four episodes and mashed them together with bad pacing." I did not find the pacing amiss at all. And so I simply just respond, oh, the movie based on the highly episodic show felt episodic? What were you expecting?
Share your opinions, I'm happy to talk. I'm very receptive to critiques of my favorite things (I'm an MCU fan after all, never bothered me none) and never get down on people for it not being their cup of tea.

My opinion is that it was a great time. People on the internet get upset about anything
GravyEducation
I heard all opinions so I went into it expecting it to just be exactly as the show was at its "worst." Which is the good to me. We didn't stick around for end credits because honestly I wasn't expecting anything really (how many times y'all stick around for end credit scene and nothing happens?) And I was trying to get food before a place closed. But yeah anyway, I wanted to see the classic concept art crawl. Maybe they did it, maybe they didn't.... I'll just Google it later

Genuinely a good movie. Yeah it did just feel like an extra long episode of The Mandalorian but that's kind of unavoidable considering

I was joking earlier that complaining about it is like complaining about the fact that he said This is the Way. Like one would think you could see that coming. And also! I thought the parts bled into each other nicely. Like a 5 act play, or any other movie that does parts 1 through X. Which is really common in Westerns

So which of the major complaints was the one you thought was most founded??

Spoilers 1/2

2/2 the Hutt character was a little miscast in his voice actor i feel, and kept repeating his lines. The Hutt on Hutt fight was classic poorly lit thing where you couldn't tell which Hutt was which (though the rest of the fight was good). And my personal complaint? Sigourney didn't say "May the Force be with you" when she was confirming Mando's danger close

It was a fun extra long episode, but I was disappointed that the Thrawn/Ahsoka storyline wasn't moved forward in this movie at all.
Exyr
I mean they killed the ahsoka storyline why move it along?
GravyEducation
Also I am so foolish I forgot I had this
GravyEducation
I don't care much about Ahsoka but Rosario is cool as fuck doing it, and her Mando episode might be my favorite episode. I was actually telling my mom, The Clone Wars movie, we saw back in the day and my brother and I thought it was bad enough to walk out on. Fast forward many years later and it's one of the most lauded star wars projects. (But guys understand that I can't get into seeing the whole thing even though it recovered gracefully, that movie was sooooo bad)
PutItInNeutral
The animated Clone Wars movie really was that bad. It also felt like they were doing Gendy Tartokovsky dirty by shunting his brilliant Clone Wars series to the dust bin.
The Filoni Clone Wars series turned out to be some really good story telling. But I had to power my way through the first season.
Rebels was an amazingly great series. I got really excited that they brought back James Earl Jones as Darth Vader and Frank Oz as Yoda. Ahsoka has been a worthy sequel to Rebels so far.

This is the Way

This felt like a filler episode with zero importance to it whatsoever, especially after sidelining the main character.
GravyEducation
Sidelining which character? Mando or Grogu? Cuz Mando got top billing
ilhares
I mean when he was captured and effectively doing nothing, because there was zero suspense or anticipation around his supposed 'rescue'. Absolutely nothing that happened in the movie gave a feeling that you'd get anything other than the typical Disney children's film finish and a "tune in again next week" kind of a send off.
Hence 'filler episode'.

I thought it was a fun movie! Took the fam & had a great time. It's Star Wars, a franchise designed for an audience of *all* ages, so anyone expecting other than that will be disappointed.
Loved the visuals, the backgrounds were beautiful & those space ships are as gorgeous as SW is known for, and the soundtrack was on point, too, IMO.
GravyEducation
Oh that song is stuck in my head all night. And the characters I thought had the potential to be annoying were completely hilarious. Talking about the lil guys
meerkat212
Thw music was so unlike anything that had been done in any of the previous movies, and yet it fit so perfectly in the SW universe. But I'm a sucker for a good score...
And yeah, those lil dudes were pretty funny :D

Mando has always had good music. Ludwig Göransson. I really liked the intro where they did the flute part extended and saved the DUN DUN https://youtu.be/i_OIKx9IG4o
