Lehman Cave

Took a tour of a local cave.

This was the original entrance that everyone used to use before the new entrance was cut. Hard to tell from picture, but its a good size hole, pretty high up. Story goes that Lehman found this cave by accidently riding his horse into this hole. Before he smashed on the rocks below though, he was able to pull his rope and lasso and tree whilst falling. He then gripped his horse with his legs and hung there, holding the horse up for three days until help arrived... sounds plausible.

While not a very large cavern, the formations of stalactites and stalgmites are the true appeal.

Many of the formations are broken, due to a policy that used to exist, "If you can break it, you can take it." Due to this, people used to bring their sledge hammers.

Some of these formations are really impressive though.

During prohibition, this large area was used as a speakeasy. In later years, dances and concerts would be held down here.

This cavern was also designated as the local bomb shelter in wartime.
