My sweetheart who's now confined to a hospital bed bought this for me at the gift shop following a visit to Alcatraz while she was volunteering for the National Park Service here in the SF Bay Area, & presented it to me as a birthday gift in 2013. It reminds me of her fiercely independent nature and sheer strength of will in the face of adversity.

She has always been a steadfast advocate of protecting our beautiful parklands. We spent countless hours wandering California's incredibly diverse landscapes and enjoying the great wealth of outdoor experiences available here.

See that island in the distance? It's not Alcatraz.
