"We're gonna need them back by June though, eh?"
silentsalami
Thank you, and thanks to your families!
Arnold66
WOW, thats one of the reasons I think firemen are heroes ?
AbeoLogos
Australian firefighters have helped Canada out in a big way, in the past. I'm happy if we can repay even a small part of that kindness.
Isendsecretsantagifts
Are Australians going to help themselves by stopping the ruining of the environment? You vote for people who vow to continue mine coal
Tymora
Crews from Down Under helped handle widespread wildfires in BC, Canada during 2017 and 2018. Happy to hear it’s reciprocated.
SirDuddleZboob
France will shortly send planes over. Hang in there you beautiful cunts!
NomadUniverse
Thank you. - Australia
Golgothanworm
I'm sure Trump would send help, but what has Australia ever done for him?
hidinginyourbasement
Canada... Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
SneezeFarts
This is good news, its unfortunate that the front line folks have to make sacrifices because governments fail to do the right thing.
SneezeFarts
As an American I see individuals everyday trying to make a difference to slow climate change, but little to know support from government
SaphirasSexDoll
We should just ship 100% of all Pabst over to put out the fire. That shit is just water.
Fairdinkums
HalfIagoHalfFuManchuAllBastard
Thanks Canada. We can use any and all help. Much appreciated.
TheFastpaws
Godspeed all of you.
arKittenCat
The firefighters out here have been unbelievable. Out in the bush day and night, planes and helicopters, except when they're needed more
arKittenCat
somewhere else, but they still managed to smile and go round the streets giving kids Christmas lollies, even when they were exhausted
ecrutt
Thank you! Open arms to welcome you to our sunburnt/ just generally burnt land...
LionFromTheNorth
The UK should be sending firefighters, Navy, Army, Air Force, financial aid. Thank you Canada!
arKittenCat
I'm near the Wollemi national park just the other near Palmers Oakey & Mt Marsden and this is the second night of rain. It's so wonderful.
naddiec
Im living in Aus after having spent 2 years in Edmonton. I feel so amazingly and lovingly connected to this! A nice smile before I go to bed
SankariSuomi
We love our Canuck cousins!

(1) California has already sent over 20 federal agency firefighters but ask the U.S. Govt to allow state level deployment of firefighters.
HighFunctioningAlcoholic
California and it's cities/counties would make that decision, not the federal government. Washington would only be involved with funding.
Cabreza
They can't. Federal regulations specify they need federal approval to do so. I would like to see them just say fuck it and go anyway though.
Cabreza
(2) That way Calfire can deploy more: https://7news.com.au/news/bushfires/california-firefighters-ready-to-help-aust-c-634034

what goes around comes around. aussies fire team never shied away on helping other nations in need.
babawanyika
Thanks guys.
uponstrangeshores
I'd love to know why South Africa hasn't sent any.
Ultimatool
Because they had the chance to prove they could be deployed internationally and went on strike instead.
MlCE
This happened in canada but... https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-36529690 (Not trying to discredit the SA firefighters btw)
uponstrangeshores
Can you give me a tldr? I can't access the BBC site.
OrangeCatFluffyCatBrownCatChubbyCat
AB Gov agreed to pay $170/day per person to SA Fire Company. But SA people were only getting $15/day. SA Fire company said they’d 1/
OrangeCatFluffyCatBrownCatChubbyCat
Receive the remainder when they got home. But they left instead. Unclear from reading whether it was AB Gov not paying or Fire Company 2/
OrangeCatFluffyCatBrownCatChubbyCat
Mis-handling funds. Oh and the $170/day was for salary and operational expenses. 3/3
DownvoteAllYouWantImstillRight
But what if it starts burning in Alberta!?
circlebreaker
The snow will take care of it eventually...
OrangeCatFluffyCatBrownCatChubbyCat
It’s freezing here and snow-covered, so unlikely.
Xarr
It'll be another 3-4months before the fires here kick up.
Snowwolf4
Instead of a f...king war, let’s go fight a threat. A real terrorist to the world. We Americans have had our share of fires too, let’s go
MaskedmanMcmann
Far as I'm concerned, anyone with a firefighter's id should drink for free in any bar in the country.
magikscruples
Cool. I know how to make fake firefighter IDs so this should be lucrative.
Chols
The bars in my college town would waive the cover charge. Just don’t drink in your fire shirt.
lljkstonefish
Don't worry, if they want to "do well" while over here, I'm sure they know how to cash in.
jjn010
Or they should just be paid very well, or at all for that matter
SAUSAGEmcmuffinwithHASHbrowns
Careful now, many firefighters can drink a LOT.
MaskedmanMcmann
They're worthy.
Safebox36
This is unrelated to the bush fires, MaskedmanMcmann just wants to drink for free :L
Unholytrashpanda
Do we know that MaskedmanMcmann is a firefighter? Careful with assumptions.
JHawke
Uhm, MASKED man? What else could it be, you suppose he's runnin around at night in tight spandex?
Unholytrashpanda
We are literally on IMGUR. A community practically busting through the sides with cosplayers, geeks and nerds of every flavor.
JHawke
And also people who don't get jokes.
acme64
sounds like ineffective fire fighting
MaskedmanMcmann
Only in college.
somekindofusernamething
i work in a service station where the big fires 6 weeks ago burned, I have just about gone broke shouting the firies that comes through.
SnakuPlisskin
First time hearing the term "firie." I'm'a start using that. Toss a coin to your firie.
GirthBrookss
This is the second time someone has used the term “shouting” not in the context of speech. I’m confused.
Talori
"My shout" = "on me" / "my treat"
somekindofusernamething
Paying for their food/drink
awagner13
IT MEANS BUY SOMEONE A DRINK
4DFlash
"Shouting" means 'To pay for'. So they've been spending their own money to buy drinks for firefighters.
GH05TY
Today I learned a new slang. Many thanks, small telepathic mammal
4DFlash
No problem! :)
TheRealAlpharius
More nations need to be like Canada.
desrosierskim365
No, they need to be more like Alberta
GinOClock
Thanks! I'm just happy to be here. <3
BaffledCake
A lot of EU firefighters want to go there ASAP, but can't. Regulations require an official demand from Australia's PM.
MusicalOtter
I'm one of them (from Norway). It would be a great learning experience!
TheMasterOfTheMechanicalStuff
i saw a fb group of firefighters in denmark who wants to come and help for free.
bscarb01
Not really
OrangeCatFluffyCatBrownCatChubbyCat
Sorry eh.
ChoovaMonster
A lot of firefighters and smoke jumpers who work in the US go to Australia for their fire season but aren't mandated by the gov't to do so
ChoovaMonster
The only difference here is that Canada asked their firefighters who would like to go, seven volunteered. In US people either have (1/2)
ChoovaMonster
Firefighting as a career/job or they're a student looking for seasonal employment. All those career/job people have already made thedecision
TheGriffin
I dunno. We still are being huge dicks to our first nations peoples
PrimeministerofImgur
We have our problems. Romanticizing any country is a mistake. I've yet to see a perfect one.
TheRealAlpharius
*looks at United States, which just announced it's going to target Iranian civilians in airstrikes*
lickwidghost
Get ready for cockblocking Americans...
BrazilianThunderPanda
The US has already sent a few dozen people already including hotshot & helicopter crews: https://apnews.com/33231a11c25129c1f312889ad1d2e9ae
CanadianHoneybadger
To be fair the US offered help very quickly. The fuckwit in charge of Australia said no. Help was sent anyway. Fuck you Scot you dog cunt.
GravyEducation
*stares back in Minnesota* I didn't sign up for this shit, I just wanted healthcare and a Tim Hortons
spechtimus
The real military commanders of America aren't going to let that happen

Australia helped us out big a few years ago, in exactly the same way. Least we can do.
DaveTheScientist
Aye, we help each other when it comes to fires like that. Helps that our fire seasons are offset.
Ohio
Y'all don't read https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-01-02/la-me-australia-fires-us-helps-firefighters
GirthBrookss
No one said anything contrary to this article so what are you talking about.
Ohio
Looks like I don't read. I was going through the replies of the *looks at us* comment above this and didn't realize it was a new comment
spechtimus
Wonderful article, I just wish that the Australian pm would actually pay his firefighters
fermeyourbouche
I’m the exact opposite of a scummo fan, but that’s a gross misrepresentation. Feds don’t pay firefighters. And they’re largely volunteers.
Otaku4ever
It is a National Disaster...! They should get some form of compensation...!
MoePancakes
He doesnt pay them?
Samarck
Not a cent
Fairdinkums
Check my last post if you want some more wonderful info on our PM
somethinsomethin
He's too busy filling his own pockets.
grandmastonguekiss
They should just put that fire out...it's starting to become a nuisance
KnowmSaying
We have a dedicated firefighting force but also volunteers. I do believe the volunteers are being given compensation now.
Thecakesaliedog
yeah they get like 10c for every 10 dollars they would normally earn.
regularearthkid
Yes they are after Scomo caught so much flack, and thanks to Anthony Albanese
drunkill
eh, very strict conditions for compensation claims and only upto 6k. Some have been fighting the bushfires for well over 2 months now unpaid
asianmilkspray
I really wonder how the volunteer firefighters pay their bills. I would be in the streets if I dont get paid for a month.
onlyawfulnamesleft
Get this, some of them are on unemployment, and are being refused that because they haven't applied for enough jobs in the last few months!
AmnesiacAUS
Yet they're amazingly skilled workers with a wealth of knowledge and training... Unemployed. Good luck Joe citizen with the job hunt.
