The hobby - Fat Biking (warning: one graphic image at the end)

Let's start with what I love about this sport - fantastic days like this.

The Bike: Specialized Fatboy SE. Mid-spec bike. I got interested in this when I was looking for a way to keep fit in the winter. Saw the tracks these made in the snow one day, and that was it, I had to try. Of course it's not always this clean.

Especially if I ride in the spring.

Summer's better, though I my regular mountain bike is better suited to the job.

The gear. I wear armour now, because I've cracked my ribs twice. One of the keys for winter riding is layers, of course, and I always take different types of gloves for weather changes. (Not pictured is the other outer layers, boots, helmet etc. Hot chocolate is a must (because water freezes too fast). I also take a couple snacks, hand and toe warmers just in case. And the obligatory full first aid kit. Because, you know, things happen (coming up).

But the scenery is well worth the ride.

One last shot before the bad thing.

The bad thing. Ok, so I was well prepared and geared up, and a big shout out to Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine for the Wilderness Medic training. I didn't do the stitches (hard to do with one hand), but the first aid training made all the difference. This kind of thing is rare. Mostly, it's just a whole load of fun.
