As someone who has worked at zoos and similar facilities in the past, I hate people who pull these stunts. They are endangering themselves and the animals that encounter them. I know lions and other big cats are beautiful and majestic. Some even act like big house cats, climbing into boxes and rubbing theirs heads against the walls of their enclosure like they want to be petted. But these are wild animals. Even ones raised by humans are not domesticated and are unpredictable.
Pro Tip: When visiting a zoo, be sure to keep a barrier and buffer zone between you and non-petting zoo animals. The same goes for your kids.
