A bit ironic because in Australia we've seen a fair bit of expansion of the arid zones in the middle of the country driven by climate change and poor land management, but we certainly also seem to be getting a lot more warm wet years along the east coast.

The rest of the article goes into efforts being made to mitigate the damage caused by the bug infestations, mainly focused on gov efforts to find and test resistant species of grass and legumes which could be planted. Political groups associated with graziers and farmers in this country have consistently lobbied for decades against dealing with climate change at the source. Seems kind of weird since their livelihood is at stake.

damn, did a quick look up, that one looks like its come in from overseas, not good news at all. If we get that in the east we'll be fucked dry or wet.

The recent string of wet summers have been caused by overlapping climate cycles and are predicted to flip back to their drier cycle this year or next, when droughts will again be a threat instead of floods.

It's usually La Nina which brings floods to australia not the current El Nino which was historically associated with drier, hotter conditions. Of course overlap from other systems, like the one in the indian ocean is changing current effects. I personally view climate change as the pendulum swinging ever harder after as we add more energy to the system. Be interesting to see what we get on what used to be the dry end of the swing, and if we ever see new systemic states.

You also missed out the Tonga Volcano, the particulate it threw into the atmosphere lead to cooler temperatures and more rain fall as well. So it was those 3 things all hitting at the same time that caused all the record-breaking floods. Climate change is more just a constant tilt to the system, unlike those 3 which are more varied.

Tonga is generally modeled at having an impact measured in hundredths of a degree, so a part, but probably not the main driver of what we're seeing. This current string of east aus wet warm years also started well before the eruption (I think). But yeah definitely something to consider. I don't see climate change as a constant tilt but more like adding energy to pendulumic swings with the possibility of developing new patterns as well when we pass tipping points.

It had minimal temperature impacts, but it had a large impact on rain fall as the particulates it threw up to varying levels started to enter cloud formation levels of the atmosphere. Which helped contributed some extra nucleation sites to cause clouds that lead to rain. That's why it had an impact on the record-breaking floods. As we had 2 weather system patterns that would increase rain and a volcanic impactor that put more particulates into that system. ->

So in that instance it made the wet climate effects wetter. As climate change isn't just temperature effects. It is all the things that are driven by temperature effects. And the reason why I said a constant tilt is because, the additional gasses are always there, so they don't fluctuate or alternate like cyclical climate cycles do. So they are always constantly tilting the system out of its normal balance.
