I just remembered how much Trump hates Spain because the Spanish PM so vocally shits on Trump and bruises his fragile ego, to the point Trump had tantrums and demanded the EU "Block Spain from trade" (legally and logically impossible). Makes this victory that much sweeter. And no special treatment arranged for the Spanish team by their PM either, unlike team USA with their child-raping fascist president.

it's not a "defending champion". They were the previous champion but it's not a title they defend, it's a title you have to win every single time

Common parlance in sports that if the previous year's champion makes it to the championship, they are the "defending champion". I would say this is just for American sports but the British announcers for F1 also refer to last year's championship driver as the defending champion, so I don't know what you want to nitpick more.

Fuck, I hated seeing the US's Orange Overlord stand there, trying to make it about himself, as usual. Like he had any words of value or interest to impart to the players. Even Infantino tried to drag him away when Spain were going to lift the cup, but the addle-brained dim-wit just stood there.
Besides Spain being very deserving winners on the night, it was extra nice that a country Trump's been quarreling with won it, instead of Milei's shithousers.
