#1 This gives The SCOTUS 6 a handy list of precedents they will override.

#1 Am in my 80s and female. I have personally run into three of these situations and, for the fourth, had to threaten to contact the banking commissioner when a mortgage loan was denied for me despite a perfect credit score, 20 years at the same job, and putting 66% on the new house. When I divorced in '72, hubby took all the CC cards and left me as 'cash only' until I bullied one bank into giving me one. We cannot go back. Oh, you forgot: men didn't pay child support if out of state.

#1 and in the 2024 election about 40% of Latina women and 53% of white women looked at this and said "I think this sounds good, let's go back to that". Only 7% of black women were ok with this.

"Third wave feminism" seems to be about putting boots on the necks of men and first wave feminists, going by the public rhetoric against it.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Some people do take it too far, and then those who were already against equality cherry-pick the ones who go too far and act like that's the average in order to discredit the whole group.

And to be clear, that's not an invalid concept, to think that perhaps the only way to truly be equal is to push the pendulum the other way for awhile instead of just pushing it to the center. Because to say, ok let's start being equal starting now, means that we all start from our current places, where men /1

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

hold the majority of the money and the power. So how can we possibly be equal if we're ok with taking that as our starting point? It's effectively the same idea as reparations for slavery to black people in the US. Trying to start being equal now, on a tilted playing field, can't possibly result in equality. It's like starting a game with one team being given a massive lead. How will the other ever catch up? /2

I feel very similarly about the LGBTQIA movement.

It is made of up marginalized groups fighting for their rights to exist.

9 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

And we can’t stop fighting, not even for a minute.

The billionaire class depends on gender dimorphism to keep in power. If you’re not F or M, you’re harder to control, it’s harder for the powers of marketing and media to keep you insecure and sad, powerless. This is by design.

Fuck those assholes.

#3 This one hits hard. I'm certainly guilty of having done many of those things she call out. And I didn't question it at the time or do it with malicious intent. But I did them. That's what I was programmed for and thought nothing of it. Last couple years have been eye opening, and I have a lot of apologising to do.

Man I remember realizing how racist I was as a younger person. Identifying your wrongs is the first step. Making changes in your mentality is progress!

9 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah that too, only over the last few years have I realised how racist my upbringing and country and entertainment has been. Never in what I perceived as in a hateful way, but just...there. Old cartoons, and comedians in blackface, and names for things. Just...casually racist, all over.

Good for you, genuinely. Recognizing you've been wrong, acknowledging it aloud, and offering apologies to those affected is all harder than a lot of people are willing to credit. It is never too late to learn to do better and by doing this you also make it easier for others to do the same.

The Republican propaganda playbook, heavily copied from the one Goebbels of the Nazi Party crafted, has many precepts... and one of the key ones is to take heavily used words or phrases by the opposition and then repurpose them. The did it with liberal, woke, socialism, democrat.... and now antifa (anti-fascism).

Antifa is about being against fascism. And Republicans consider feminism as something else to hate. This party is an evil cabal dead set on creating civil chaos. They must be stopped.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There was a lot of talk maybe a decade or so ago about "rebranding" feminism to a name that hasn't been demonized. There's literally no point. They'll just demonize the new name, while you've created discontinuity in the movement. Probably the same reason the NAACP doesn't change their name to remove "colored" from it. It's pointless.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#1 is great, but let's add to it to really drive home the fact that as women, our rights are so young, and SO hard fought, just absolutely CLAWED out of the system:

1848: The Seneca Falls Convention is the first meeting for women's rights and arguably the beginning of the suffrage movement in the United States (but was not limited to the vote, women's rights were deeply tied to abolition as well.)

You could say it wasn't until the 1920s that white women got the right to vote, but /1

9 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

/1 technically we got it piece meal over the next 80 years across the states. It was the 19th amendment that we got in the 1920s and that ONLY applied to white women.

That's 80 years. It took 80 years of fighting to get the vote, and realistically, it took longer, that foundation was being set as far back as the beginning of the 19th century.

For anyone who was not white? Longer. 1965. That includes, any woman of Asian descent, Native women, Black women-- it took so long.

#1 Women had trouble getting bank accounts when single, too, and would frequently be required to have a male co-signer on the account.

9 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I remember hearing about that from my mother. When she was working a part-time job and wanted to have a bank account to keep that money separate, under her own management, the bank wouldn't let her without her husband co-signing...

That's what Republicans want to bring back--women subservient to men in all forms. It's disgusting and despicable. No woman should've ever voted for Trump. It's masochism.

9 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

They want to go back to when you’d get home from work, could rape your wife when you wanted, demand they cook you dinner, and be unable to leave due to a systemic disregard for female independence. Voting, finances, and no fault divorce are three of the worst things to happen to conservative men, as far as they’re concerned.

9 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And what I don't get is the cognitive dissonance mindset of conservative career minded women. Do they vote Republican because they see themselves as exceptional, but the majority of women in the 99% need to be "owned" by their husbands?

I always hate the term "reverse-whatever" It's still sexism if it's regarding any individual sex. It's racism if it's regarding any individual race. Reverse-sexism would be... Disregarding someone's sex in regards to decisions? I think?

"If you're for saving houses, you should call yourself a house-saver, not a firefighter!"

"I mean... I am for saving houses in general, but this house is very much on fire specifically. In order to save it, we gotta put out this fire first."

"That's reverse bigotry! You don't care about the leaks in the roof!"

This is how insane these people sound when they go on about saying egalitarian instead of feminist.

9 months ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 2

it's weird how the people with the most privilege are always the first to claim someone demanding equality for a specific group are racist or sexist or whatever. Almost like they think equal means having different levels of castes where some people deserve to have more privilege while others deserve to suffer.

#3 growing up in the time I did the culture and society, I did this. I grew emotionally and intellectually, learned more about the world, heard stories from my female loved ones, friends, and strangers, read online. I tried to understand something I will never, and trusted when women around me said they experienced it and felt it.
Sometimes, I still do that stupid shit because the rot runs deep. But I keep trying. There is no excuse to not listen and not try.

Yeah. This is one of my biggest personal frustrations, growing up where and how I did. Someone days something like trigger warning or male priv-my knee perk reaction is to roll my eyes. I'm a golden retriever of a lad and I dont want to hurt anybody and certainly not on purpose.
I try but it's not something that comes as second nature or easily. I try to be an ally but I often fall short without malicious intent. Even admitting it feels self indulgent like my upset is even remotely comparable

It just takes practice, and maturity. Which also comes with practice.

My friends in high school were nerdy, but were pretty cool about women. When I was told about the things men do to women I thought ,"it's just a small minority of men" because I thought most men were like me and my friends. But in the decades since, and I've met more men and listened to more women and the things they've gone through... Holy shit we're a bunch of bastards. They say the 1 in 4 women have been the victim of sexual assault. I feel that's a lie. It has to be much, much higher. ¹

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And the whole "stop saying sorry all the time” thing. You notice it's mostly women that do that. Because they all have had a man in their lives that would blame them for everything and get mad at the any perceived slight against them. I've changed it to " you don't to need to apologize to me". It reduces the stigma.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At first I was confused why my partner was saying sorry so much. I kept responding "No, why? Don't be sorry" then it got frustrating because I didn't want her to feel like she thinks she should be sorry for ordinary stuff, I didn't get it. I understand deeper now, still don't get it, but I engage her, sometimes a touch or catch her eye and say something like, "my love don't ever be sorry for feeling/saying/thinking what you're going through"

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It happens here on Imgur constantly. I'm glad there are men noticing and trying to change, but it's sad to see that even on a site that's as supposedly "left" as imgur, there's still plenty of it. Remember the protests against MediaLab and all the boobs? People are still talking about how great it was, while I saw numerous comments from women saying it makes them feel alienated and unwelcome. But no one cared about that.

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Imgur is liberal, not really leftist, a lot of leftist always criticize liberal for the very same thing you talk about, how their ally ship is performative and any "excuse" they have they'll be happy resort to misogynist and bigoted discourse, not realizing that trying to find excuses to be misogynist/bigoted is how you reinforce those structures.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I do think imgurians do pretty well to not be explicitly misogynous. Absolutely better than the average. Whatever label you want to use, most of the userbase does seem to agree that equality is important. That's why it's so disappointing to see it squeeze out the edges. It's so normalized by society that they don't even think of it as an issue.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what is criticized around the performative nature of it, being better than the average only come when it help their image, but given the chances of being able to, they'll revert back to using these type of insult if it is generally "accepted" and it ultimately reinforces those issues like you noted. Some don't understand that deconstruction is not a one and done, society constantly pressure us to fall back on it and we must constantly fight against those norms.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I disagree with that conclusion. Everyone has biases that they aren't aware of, that are built as you grow and learn, and are reinforced by your society. Some people are commenting here that they used to say racist and sexist things, thinking nothing of it, because it was the norm and it was just accepted. Then they learned why that was bad and they're trying to change. But IMO a lot still don't realize that posting a boob pic or even just a sexy pic of a woman contributes to our society's /1

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I don’t care for boob Imgur. Why couldn’t people protest with something else?

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To me it just felt like they were showing their "real" selves, and it was extremely offputting. I understand enjoying looking at sexual images. I don't understand this communal need to share looking at them and making degrading comments about them. If they just did it in private no one would care. But it always has to be public. Even the gross comments on non-sexual posts. Why? Why do they have to *post* it instead of just think it? No one cares who they want to fuck.

9 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I don't know the story, but based on context it sounds a lot like- "Underage girl raped on camera and footage uploaded to pornhub." I could be wrong, but that's what it reads like.

9 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what it is, there are a few groups of "content creators" that create rape videos where the women are victims of sexual trafficking, and often they're underage to boot.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We need to stop using the word underage when describing victims of SA and instead say “child”

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I get wanting to use terminology that evokes stronger emotion, but those people don't deserve to be remembered in any context. Perpetrators of sex trafficking should be treated with cold, clinical, matter-of-fact efficiency and executed. No outrage or news headlines, just removed from the population and erased.

#1 My little sister was born in 1974. My Mom told me she thinks my Dad had her sterilized while she was in the hospital because he didn't want any more kids. She has three sisters and they all have 3-4 kids. She's a devout Catholic and would not consider birth control or abortions.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I read an article about the history of breast cancer treatment. They used to not even tell the woman what was happening, and there was no partial removal considered. Her husband would consent to it, she'd go to the hospital, and she'd wake up with her boobs gone. The husband could tell her beforehand if he wanted, I guess. But it wasn't required for her to be told by anyone, or to consent.

We are taught since childhood to keep separate aspects of life entirely apart, and this is considered normal. One does not mix them. It's not that they are good actors, they are simply doing what everyone does, and to them there is no difference: any time you see someone pass by and think to yourself "Damn!" or experience a passing desire to eat something, travel somewhere, watch anything, and don't act on it, don't even acknowledge it... someone else could be having very different thoughts. For a long while I thought female gamers statements were a bit hyperbole, or was a case of the worst examples sticking out the most when thinking about the toxicity of male gamers in online games:

Then I started playing an MMO with a female character, and the name being female.

Whoooo fucking boy was I fucking wrong. Dudes, on average we're fucking gross, full stop. If you think I'm attacking you right now, I probably am. Dudes are fucking absolutely gross in online games. Unsolicited prop-

Gamers had successfully hoodwinked people for awhile there since the late-90s that they weren't the misogynistic dweebs the stereotypes portrayed. Then GamerGate came along and, no, the *vast* majority are disgusting little incels, worse than anyone could imagine. Ofcourse now they're back to pretending otherwise.

9 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

ositions, inappropriate "Oh, someone I think is a woman said they suck at something, wonder what else they suck? It's appropriate to ask that, right?" and then there's the dude who asked me if my name was *insert name* that had no connection to anything I'd ever said in the game, games forums, or anything.

Turns out dude was randomly googling me, found an old site by someone who had the same nick, and thus thought they found my personal site. And didn't even understand how unutterably creepy

9 months ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

they were being. Along with countless other examples.

Only fun thing, as a note: as a working class bi dude who spent decades as an utter fucking troll, dudes who are creepy make for great punching bags. After the first few, I took up a new solution to the problem: taking every DM to the whole chat server, and politely informing them of my gender and sexuality, and offering to top them should they wish led to both much hilarity. For some reason, creepers are highly uncomfortable with that, and

9 months ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

if a healthy dose of public humiliation and laughter results in them worrying the next time they want to be inappropriate with a woman, and second guessing, I'll count that as a fuckin' win. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, after all. If they don't want to be laughed at, maybe they should shut the fuck up with their creepiness and keep it to themselves.

Meanwhile, America is hurtling back to those bad old days without so much as a bump in the road. Roe v Wade was overturned, and life went on as if nothing happened. Do Americans crave oppression? What's the deal?

9 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Looks like some desperately crave to oppress. I wager it's because their frail ego cannot handle not being inherently good/special. Apparantly, if they get to oppress someone, anyone really, they'll gladly take the oppression of someone who superficially looks vaguely similar to them.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay, but where is the resistance?

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

In the majority of the world, women are oppressed, with little legal recourse. People are fighting this oppression in the US, but the media is fully conservative and not going to promote that fight. Under this administration, showing anyone's name or face is dangerous. But by making the fight visible, the women will be attacked, doxxed, harmed. So we don't insist. Will your impatience help them or harm them? Are you fighting for women's rights in your country against conservatives? If so, how?

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

So the response is, "I know you are but what am I?" Women won rights through struggle that lasted generations and earned endless scorn, insults and violence. Is the media more conservative than it was in the 1970s? Is society? I'm not buying it.

What? All mainstream media platforms in the US are owned by old white dudes, some of them openly right-wing to the point they've publicly stated they want to remove democracy. And yes, those billionaires have spent decades stacking the courts, government, and police forces with similarly conservative people.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh, come on. Who owned the mainstream media back when "women's lib" activists were marching in the streets? Were the owners transgender bisexual LatinX supporters of Palestine??? Back then, women were NOT united behind basic aspects of women's equality, whereas even conservative women check most of the boxes. GET REAL.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

That's a really specific strawman you made there. Yes, the news media was a lot more independent some 50 years ago and has since been extremely consolidated to the point where only 4 companies serve 90% of the US population's news broadcasters, from initially hundreds of independent local stations. Similar happened with newspapers. This is also all public information, you can just read up on it with zero effort.

I think they mean fighting *for* abortion. Sidestepping it by being forced to have surgery that would otherwise have been seen as unnecessary isn't really a win. It's people doing what they can to stay safe, but it's not really fighting against the illegality of abortion. It's accepting it and doing what you can to work around it.

#1 Until the 1990s, it was legal for a husband to force his with to have sex with him in many, many countries. Even in Europe.

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I think it was the UK that took until somewhere in the or 90s to actually buckle under pressure and rule that raping your (soon to be ex-)wife actually counted as rape.

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And France, in 1991 or 1994 depending how you look at it. Netherlands removed the 'marital' exemption in 1991. Luxembourg 1994. Germany removed the exemption in 1997. laws in 1997. Same for Hungary. Liechtenstein 2001, Greece took till 2006.

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marital_rape_laws_by_country
Note: Just because something was officially illegal does not mean it was enforced. Nor does it not being explicitly illegal mean nobody was punished for it.

Ironically, the countries you might least expect it were the first to remove marital exemptions. Russia, in 1922. Poland, in 1932 (no offense to the Polish but a lot of people have a very biased view of poland). Slovakia 1950. Sweden is the outlier from what we consider 'the west', with 1965.

Sad to think where we might be if half our population wasn't held back due to "omg, vagina."

How many more Marie Curie's might we have had, and where might we be as a society, if not for that? ... hopefully without the whole "dying from radiologically induced Leukemia" bit, but you get the point. We have been denied the potential greatness of half or population because of this.

Not just "omg, vagina". But "omg, percieved vagina."

Women being like men is worthy. Men being like women is a downgrade & "mental illness".

Some misogynist extremists also think it's gay to have sex with women, and it's more masculine to have sex with men but not "men", only feminine boys.

Like pedastry in Ancient Greece & Rome.

Values the West champions as the "birthplace of Democracy & Freedom" which is false. Persia was the model the West stole while championing colonialism & slavery.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of things we'd get if we had male creatives just take a year off. If women actually got to just create without first having to win men's approval to do so. How much great art, music, movies and books do we miss out on because no one gives their female creators a fair shot?

Makes me think of my grandparents and the chances they didn't get. (born 1897 and 1900). They were farmers and we only found out when my granddad got 'knighted' (some Dutch recognition pin that you get from the mayor) that he had been an unpaid councilmember for over 40 years next to his farmwork. Probably proves he wasn't dumb. And his wife was (a lot) smarter than he was and could discuss anything and everything well into her 80's. Think my mom (IQ around 140) got her smarts from grandma. >

My dad was the first of his town to have more than a highschooleducation and my mom was working as a teacher before she met him and was pretty self-sufficient (apart from the ~10 years she stopped working raising us). Guess I was lucky growing up seeing parents with equal standing so I think that for the most part I have always seen women as equals. Never known it to be anything else.

#4 is there an article about this? She broke away from an assault, but if she was put into a coma, how did she break away from the assault?

could've gotten away, then succumbed to her injuries later?

There might be more information under her original post. She's the author who fought Pornhub to remove rape videos. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13656113/Laila-Mickelwaits-book-details-fight-close-Pornhub.html

Imagine... having to FIGHT to get RAPE content removed from a sex video sharing site. There should be a law against it... but what's worse is that more people didn't report it.

what does "a pornhub child rape victim" mean?

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Overly condensed descriptor makes it hard to follow.

She is the one who published a book trying to get pornhub shut down because she found videos on pornhub that included rape and sex trafficking victims, including some with underage victims.

Presumably someone who was raped as a child who had the video of that rape posted on Pornhub.
