The Impossible Orchestra

Arturo Márquez’ popular “Danzón No. 2” is played by a truly "impossible" orchestra: The whole thing is possible thanks to a charity project founded by Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra. She has created the "Impossible Orchestra” in order to call attention to the rampant violence against women in Mexico. With this project, she's raising funds to support organizations that work to support victims of sexism and violence in Mexico.

In the midst of a global pandemic, Alondra de la Parra has united famous musicians from all over the world, such as Rolando Villazon, Arturo Sandeval, Albrecht Mayer or Sarah Willis, whose conflicting schedules would normally make it difficult to play together in one orchestra. The members of this “Impossible Orchestra” play at different times and in different places, such as Berlin, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, and Valencia. And of course the “Danzón No. 2” is also danced, with a performance by the Mexican prima ballerina Elisa Carrillo Cabrera.
