They're never going to make it to Madagascar!

Wouldn't flightless birds be the BEST pilots? It's not like they can fly WITHOUT a plane.

Translation: "Let's simply face the facts: Penguins can't fly!"

I enjoyed this very much, thank you. XD

Dont get it.

Second panel being tilted is a good visual tool used for rough flight.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I got the intention of the joke, but it makes no sense: they somehow took off the plane and the flight was smooth few seconds earlier.
Maybe, if the last panel was the pilot (a flying bird) passed out and the co-pilot (a flightless bird) panicking, it would have worked better.

Pig on third panel: "Finally! My time has come!"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Took me a second, i thought i was looking for Loss

"This better not be 'loss'. ... ... What? Oh."

The flightless birds can't fly. But maybe if they believe hard enohgy... oh still can't though....

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Beastars has made me VERY nervous about all these animals being in a plane together like that

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Okay. That took me longer to get than I'm comfortable admitting.

2 years ago | Likes 137 Dislikes 3

help?

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Was slow too, penguins and ostriches are flightless birds.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Flightless birds.

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

The joke would make more sense without the first two panels, the lion with the red wine is a red herring.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

I would have gotten it on my own if all the passengers and the attendant were flying birds

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I was completely sidetracked with the predator-prey relationship at first.

So many comments talking about how difficult this joke is to get. And highly upvoted, too. It's a little concerning. I mean, the oxygen masks have dropped down. The lion is looking up at said masks. Everyone is panicked. The entire 2nd panel is literally knocked out of frame to indicate turbulence. Then deer goes to pilots who are flightless birds. I'm not saying it's the funniest bit in existence. You MIGHT blow air from your nose. But the setup is far from obtuse.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Aside from the other (more detail oriented) issues described, why would the cabin crew not know who is in the cockpit? Like, I got the intended joke but even so it felt like I was missing something because it was so poorly executed.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It was more confusing for me because of the oxygen masks dropping actually. That one is misleading. Oxygen masks don’t drop due to turbulence they drop because cabin oxygen pressure becomes too low. It’s not difficult to get the joke, but it doesn’t feel cohesive. The second panned, to me, suggested that they were hit by something, so I wasn’t prepared for the punchline. Then the third pannel shows that the lion is the only predatory species on the plane makes it seem like it was setting up 1/2

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

for the lion to be at fault during to how long the comic features him. A better way to set up the idea that the joke is that there were flightless birds in the cockpit would have been an establishing shot of the plane with a logo and name that imply the airline is run by birds, like “Feather Airlines” or something. Then the rest of the panels could stay the same, with the exception of the oxygen masks dropping. A piece of luggage falling from the overhead bins would have been more clear. 2/2

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

My phone autocorrected “due” to “during”. Sometimes I really hate the fact that you can’t edit comments here

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I don't like the punchline to the comic and the misleading first 2 panels. It's just not funny

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

Yeah, for once I kinda agree.

I mean, a multitude of other animals could be slotted instead as the pilots, still not rrally funny though? Just kinda like 'oh, okay'.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

They're flightless birds. It's a visual pun

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I got that part, but it isnt funny IMHO. 2 frames are redundant and every other animal there is flightless as well.

Not a good joke if it has to be explained, which seems to have been necessary going by the comments with many people not getting it either.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

but.. how did they manage to get into the air?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Speaking as a pilot myself, taking off is the easy part. You just copy what the included instruction book says, point down the runway, push the engines up to power and go. The hard part is what happens once you're off the ground.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They’re flightless birds. Not takeoffless birds. Dont be racist.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who else thought the flight attendant was going to end up being the lion's in-flight meal?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

It wouldn't be the first time a flight attendant was eaten on board a plane.

Im surprised theyre not trying to murder each other... you know...fight or flight and all that?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the joke.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 10

But then how'd they take off in the first place?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Same way they do in real life, giant f-ing catapult.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean... the obviously got flying.. just forgot midway though the flight?

No. It's just a Boeing.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some international flights have multiple pilot/co-pilot pairs, and they'll switch off as needed for rest periods. Presumably a different pair handled take-off and this pair has encountered an unexpected situation.

The thing is though, humans are flightless as well, just mammals instead of birds...

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Irrelevant.

I have, yes.

2 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 16

I asked because it doesn't make much sense, considering that humans are also flightless - making me doubt if I understood the joke correctly.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a joke on the different possible meanings of "can't fly."

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hence my guess, yes. I asked to see if there were other answers that might be better or more fun. I thought I explained that already, but here we go again...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Took me a few minutes to get it, at first I thought the Lion told the Doe something was off about the drink.
