If they see two people disagreeing on an issue, they are FAR more likely to choose to believe the person they trust (based on feelings), rather than to logically evaluate each argument. I get it. I get the anger and the desire to see a country "get what it deserves", but please remember the many, many millions who will suffer that do not deserve it as well and maybe hold back a little on the "glee".
As someone who is quite literally facing death if social security/Medicare are dismantled and persecution for being non-white, gay, and trans, it hurts to feel like the rest of the world is turning their backs on me for things outside of my control.

Because it took many years, Hitler assumed that he wouldn't get power legitimately and so began building up his army of Brown Shirts who orchestrated key events in Hitlers rise to power. Trump hasn't had the need for that and while there are violent groups that are likely to support Trump, if Trump acts against large scale, peaceful protests, it will only be at that time he discovers if law enforcement, the national guard or the military will act against the American people.

So while the three branches of government have potentially failed to avoid a collapse of democracy, seizing power by bypassing them has avoided Trump building up any real military strength to enforce his orders. And while I have no doubt that there are people in military and law enforcement who will do whatever Trump orders, Trump ordering wrecking balls through VA and SSA will hurt family and friends of the remainder of those groups which will likely prevent them acting as Trumps thugs.

They will act, because the lower levels of the army, national guard, and police force are made up of either people that aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, or people that don't have the spine to go up against a superior officer. At present? Yes. In a month or so when it becomes obvious that ICE are targeting legitimate Latinos, that anyone who from a military family is seeing VA benefits cut and anyone with grandparents that lose their social security/MedicAid that group might dramatically alter. While there are other groups that will likely be impacted, they only add to this. It's less than 2 months since Trump took office and the impact of many of his changes will take 3-6 months to be fully understood/experienced

The reason I think it matters is that the vast majority of the US will be experiencing the effects of Trump's policies - the removal of government benefits and subsidies, job loss and the removal of assistance for people coping with health issues or disabilities, worsening public health due to failure to take action against measles, TB and bird flu and finally, spiralling goods prices due to the tariff wars. If that fails to get a response, tax cuts for the ultra rich should be the final straw.
