So they want all my mamas recipes as my mamaw’s?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heh, gotta "Ketchum" all.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Search text "sourdough" came back with "{isErr=True}" and no results after a few minutes. Clearly, it's a bit rough around the edges yet.

Suet works. I wonder why it's so slow though, written by archivists?

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I have a Jello cookbook monstrosity that could add some curveballs in there.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

When I figure out how to work this thing it’s gonna be awesome

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

All I see is database entries about the book and not the book itself.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same. It doesn't appear to be a functional webapp as a recipe lookup. you can pull bits of data out but that's it

A couple of years ago I “Freecycled.org” a couple of OLD (1970s 3-ringed cookbooks). Better Homes and Gardens and Betty Crocker. The lady

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.who replied she wanted them was mid-40s. She wanted the recipes she had as a child, that her mom made. I had quit using them. A lot of

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

them were adding canned vegetables, lots of cream of mushroom soup, dry packaged Lipton Onion soup mix was common back then. She was HAPPY!

And here's a site with hilarious commentary on 50s cookbooks: http://www.lileks.com/institute/gallery/index.html

"Cook fome onion. When it is cookt add nutmeg and a little beef. Cook until cookt" I seen enough Jas Townsend to know how this turns out

Obtain the GRAIN

Finally a place to put my recipe for microwaved burger surprise

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Townsends: We're gonna need more nutmeg

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Let’s go ahead and just take out all those disgusting jello plus meat or vegetable molds from the 50s and 60s.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Got that 1000 year old bread recipe?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please tell me it has THE French cooking book? You know the one that tells you the guidelines but everyone makes it different

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure I should trust a cookbook that old. They'll tell me to put in 2 cups of asbestos or something.

Source is "The Way of the Househusband"

6 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

It's funny because husband is already "house bound".

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

no its funny because hes an ex-yakuza badass that gave up the life because he fell in love but never gave up the mannerisms. I love it.

I'VE DONE NOTHING BUT TELEPORT BREAD FOR THREE DAYS!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do they have the Donner dinner Party manual?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fav and forget

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I literally have a favorites folder named "Favorgotten". I don't remember the last time I actually looked at it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fascinating! I'm reading one from 1840 that suggests spoonfuls of snow instead of eggs in pancakes. And making pie crust dough from a roux!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aaand the web site use cooookies..

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Neat +1

What about the Anarchist Cookbook, is it there as well?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“It does not contain the text of the book or recipes...”

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

okay but a collection of cookbooks isnt USEFUL. I need the data organized and referenced. Make a wikipedia of recipes

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't think so.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Jesus christ is that as dirty as I think it is? The shit they got away with in the 90s lol

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Indeed! Full scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY2kC5fZG64

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hopefully we don't have to read 500 pages of the history and life story of meals and people who created the recipe.

6 years ago | Likes 688 Dislikes 3

Why do you think it took the author 50 years to make? Had to sort through all the shit

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think you are thinking of a YouTuber...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Oh no, every time I search for recipes, I spend more time trying to find the recipe in the book's worth of store before the recipe.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And a million pop-up ads

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can still see life story? I just see ads.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s the sifter not the Pinter.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, but a lot of older recipes are written in prose rather then a list format, which can be a pain

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

"take thee a small amount of fine dough prepared in the usual manner and prepare it, then cook in softly fading oven until proper. nutmeg"

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Isn't the family history the best part

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. No it’s not. -_- (j/k)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck no. Old recipes are "one can lard, fry meat in it. Enjoy!"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone doesn't keep up with Townsend.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get the joke. But as a history lover I would read the hell out of those

6 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Don't get me wrong, some of the history for things is great, but I like being able to just get the recipe, not the tale.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I use a recipe app. If something looks good, I copy and paste the url, it goes in and strips the raw recipe right out.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Recipe keeper.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What? That's fantastic, what app is it?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I went and searched for an app that did that after reading that. i found My Recipe Box by CmonApp. This is freaking awesome.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haven't tried that but have been using recipe keeper for maybe a year and love it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Recipe keeper. It's free for like 20 recipes, then like 5 bucks. I cook and bake so was totally worth it to me.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah! That is super useful!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing! Can you add your own recipes too?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep. Can make custom ones and with a little fiddling, can scan recipes from other hard copies.
