Then her automatic feeder goes off and she leaps off me at warp factor 4 to go eat.

This. Quinn is the sweetest little ball of anxiety you'll ever meet if you're a family friend. She is also very sweet while on walks with me (I am HER protector). She is guarded when on walks with just my wife. When my daughter is present, Quinn becomes the goddamn Dark Knight. She somehow morphs into a terrifying looking beast which is quite the feat since she is a beagle / blue tick mix.

My dog Jax is the derpiest ding dong that ever dogged, but my husband came home from a weeklong trip once and burst into the house upon arrival and startled Jax, who briefly didn’t recognize him. Jax turned into a snarling bristle of teeth for an instant, before realizing who it was and turning back into a wagging derp. In that instant, I realized Jax would eat anyone who tried to hurt me and I have felt safe with him ever since.
