Ask a Computer/Network technician anything

Jan 10, 2017 3:53 PM

I will also post some stories if anyone is interested. I just think it would be cool to be able to answer some questions about what goes on in the business and how we work on your things.

For anyone curious, I work for a company that has 7 locations in Florida. I am the only onsite tech aside from my boss, and we work for everyone from leasing agencies to law firms to your every day Joe.

Why did my father leave us?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's just out to buy cigarettes, he'll be home soon

Most important question: was that mirror there or did you have to place it to take the inconspicuous selfie?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah it was there already. Honestly I was making faces into it because I'm bored here waiting for a callback

Would my computer be more stable if it has a father board and a mother board?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In reference the motherboard and the fatherboard are the same exact piece. Much like when my father got sick of my shit, the motherboard 1/2

Is a strong independent board who can fill both rolls, and don't need no man

Why does every fucking mainboard install its windows drivers except the damn ACPI driver?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly don't know that one. I just reload all the system drivers on any reinstall just to safe.

The tech guy at work said I was experiencing a Pebcap error when I brought my computer to him, but said it was to technical to explain.

what is it? and how do I prevent it in the future?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe you mean PEBCAK. it is short for, "Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard". It means the air is very humid or dusty and that /2

Can cause issues with the machine over time. Try moving to another environment.

Why networking and not computer science.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is my job, I didn't go to college for this, I went straight into the field. I really enjoy networking and find it fun

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh I just assumed for some reason that you went to college and majored in Networking Systems and management. But cool, I like to program. ??

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very neat. Yea my boss went to school for 6 years for computer science and engineering, he said that all that school didn't teach him 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit about problem solving in the real world. He feels the best way to learn is by doing, and I agree 100%

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's exactly how I feel. The best way to learn is by actually doing it, esp programming for sure. That statement could not be more true.
