Kansas law allows anyone to sue a transgender person, or one they suspect being trans, for using the “wrong” restroom in government buildings. What are going to do next bring back white only restrooms? What a fucked up state.
It's plain to see...they are testing to see how far Americans will allow constitutional protections be removed for a small population. Then they grow the population. People suspiciously brown, the rest of the queer folk, the dissidents (aka non-MAGA)...if it happens to them, it will happen to you in time.
I don't understand why more people don't realize that the ones wanting to look at everyones genitals are the problem and not the people whose genitals they want to look at.
So to be clear... this cop knew exactly what was going on, then gutter served an after the fact ticket?!? This isn't even REALLY about the law being shit any more so much as this cop being a little bastard.
That and the fact that ID requirements are a poll tax by another name. No IDs that they accept for these things are free or issued by the state for free, either. They cost money to get, which puts a lot of dependents and low income folks into tough spots.
That fits the pattern. Even if it's dismissed in court, Kansas Republicans still got a warm fuzzy feeling from the headline that one of THEM was being harassed.
American government demanding dick pics to prove yourself is pretty 2084 if you want a current Orwellian take. I hate this place now, I hated it for about 25 years but I hate it now too.
It creates that exact same problem where trans people who are passing are legally required to put themselves in a situation where assholes and cops (but I repeat myself) will think they're trying to get into the "wrong" bathroom.
Cruelty. "The cruelty is the point." These are literal sadists, who get off on inflicting pain and misery on other people. Back in the '70s they would have been serial killers like Bundy or BTK.
it just makes them sound like crazy people, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then its a duck, calling her a turkey isnt going to make it true
They are crazy people, yes. That's the point, they're not rational they just hate and want to hurt someone, anyone, to try to make themselves feel better but it won't ever do that so they keep hating and keep hurting.
That’s true, of course. But also think they really don’t understand what they’re doing. I was talking with a right winger online and posted a picture of a trans man who looked 100% like a man and asked if that person should use the ladies bathroom. The guy just short circuited. 😆 He couldn’t answer. These people think trans people are obviously trans and that’s often not the case. They haven’t thought it through and don’t really understand what they’re asking for.
Well first and foremost they only consider the sexual aspect of it and can not even seem to fathom the identity aspect of it. They are just absolutely obsessed with sex the bible belt is the pornhub belt.
Fun Fact, if a law is impossible to comply with, then it is unenforceable. I assume, in this case, it is just that cops, for the most part are fucking stupid...
Ah the classic two cops points gun at you. Cop1 yells show ID. Cop2 yells hand above your head... if you comply whit Cop2 order and keep hand above head cop1 shot you for not showing id. if you show ID Cop2 shot you for not keeping hands above head. and the cops goes free every time that happen and this is whit the cops own body cam footage.
A lot of people I work with live in Florida. Every. Single. One. Is saving up to move, but it's hellishly expensive. At least our company will pay for trans employees to GTFO to blue states
It is so much more than expensive... if it were just money, we could help... abandoning all of the roots, all of your connections and friends and employment to move to a new place is traumatic...
There aren't many places with cost of living similar to Kansas that would be better. Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Mississippi, Iowa maybe. Don't think she's would be any safer on those states.
The Blue States have inexpensive areas, upstate NY is pretty cheap, but people want to live in the West Village or the Upper West Side.... but you can live in the Bronx for almost nothing (not Riverdale tho); or Washington Heights (I grew up in Inwood).
IL is a nice Blue Island in a sea of terror Red... and most of the state is unpopulated wasteland... (of course no one lives there cuz it sucks).
Yeah, people forget that upstate and Western NY are as Red as Alabama... my first true experience of antisemitism was at a garage sale near my college on the Southern Tier where I said I was from NYC and the dude there looked at me with hateful eyes and asked, 'JEW?!?'...
yeah. Like, sure, I wouldn't face the same outright legal challenges as I would in Kansas, but an Upstate NY cop, or random jackass, is just going to make some shit up. Laws are not forces, they're bits of paper with writing on.
Iowa became the first state to remove a protected group from a civil rights bill last year by removing trans folk from theirs, they havent screwed up licenses yet... yet.
Please append with "in the USA". Ik'm definitely not saying everything is perfect this side of the big flat water, but there are perfectly reasonable places to live for trans people. Some of the very worst/cheapest places maybe not so much, but definitely not just the upper crust expensive areas.
Not really, no... generally if it is place that is welcoming of people of every variety, we tend to have more people.... Chicagoland, NYC are welcoming of the LGBTQ community, the immigrant community, the refugee community...
There are inexpensive places to live (in Chicagoland, nothing cheap in NYC) but they are deep inside ethnic areas that are a bit isolating... if you are ok with a suburb, it does get affordable... but the more amenities (ease of mass transit) the more expensive.
E.g. Oak Park is a gorgeous neighborhood outside Chicago, but every other house (j/k but there are 25 of em) was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright... so, kinda spendy.
Because they have a support system there.... it is hard to move away from a job, your family, your home and friends... esp if you have a structure of sustainability.
ooo thats a good one. most of my Donations have been ACLU and OperationBlazingsword, but this also seems like a really worthy cause to add to the list.
Most of my donations have been to the World Food Program, Oxfam, World Central Kitchen and Northern IL Food Bank to try to offset the eugenics policies of Elon Musk and trump and Republicans.
But I also give to the Trevor Project, Lambda legal and these guys.
https://tractionpnw.org/open-arms/ We help people in red states move to safer areas, primarily the Pacific Northwest. Our focus is getting people situated here with jobs and housing often as part of a more long-term strategy, though we can also help people who need to get out ASAP.

Sounds like an easy lawsuit

Punished if you do, punished if you don’t

All part of the plan. If they can get a conviction it will be come the model case for prosecutors to follow.

Called it. I said this was the point.
SpartaWolf117
that was always the point. they don't want trans people to exist.
Kotarisu
And they already believe intersex people do not exist.
Sticklebrickk
The cops are doing what they have been doing since the creation of America. Are they white? Are they male?
Kotarisu
Also, do they own property?
Astramancer
I don't understand why more people don't realize that the ones wanting to look at everyones genitals are the problem and not the people whose genitals they want to look at.
Clayman8
They did it on purpose. It was never about having the right paperwork.
meme2zombie
They intentionally made a catch 22 so they could arrest them no matter what.
welcometothedystopia
I can only say that I hope these fucks catch a 22 themselves.
LordOfDog
The Nazis started with Trans also and burnt everything about them when the war was going to begin. Unity in society showing openesss

Its both
carlsagansghost
This is why all IDs for voting are bullshit. They will just invalidate the IDs of people they don’t want voting.
mikeatike
That was the entire reason for these laws post civil war
KileyBarker
That and the fact that ID requirements are a poll tax by another name. No IDs that they accept for these things are free or issued by the state for free, either. They cost money to get, which puts a lot of dependents and low income folks into tough spots.

How is a cops job to judge your gender?
akafluffy
It isn't, so they'll get away with doing it wrong if you don't fit in their cis hetero white centric worldview.
donpat
They don't want them to comply. They want them to die.
IamIntoleranceIntolerant
If you read the link, there has been an update. The case has been dismissed by the county prosecutor.
At least someone in Kansas law enforcement has common decency.
micuu
May have been because a proper citation was not issued and given to the driver. Not because of any actually decency. This could happen more.
JoshAndBurn
That fits the pattern. Even if it's dismissed in court, Kansas Republicans still got a warm fuzzy feeling from the headline that one of THEM was being harassed.

Also, she should move the fuck out of Kansas.

Maybe it should be the opposite, thousands of trans people and supporters moving into Kansas and voting.
ZackWester

grantUnityGod
Why should she have to move? They're the ones who suck.

Reminds me of the Micheal Bolton name change line from Office Space.
Kotarisu
Remember that with Heien v. North Carolina, police do not actually have to know the laws that they enforce.
And yes, all sensible people should move the fuck out of Kansas.
bippityboppitybuttsex
Then I need to be allowed to sue that officer, personally, if they arrest me for a crime that did not happen.
BTW, this is why no one likes cops.
Kotarisu
True, "qualified immunity" is in general a very infuriating thing.
bippityboppitybuttsex
