It's my cake day so I'll repost the Mystic Seer I made my dad this Christmas.

The (nearly) final prop. (Gotta start with something good to draw the people in, right?)

3D printing the head. This was actually the impetus of the project. Once I had this printed, I got the insane idea to make a complete Mystic Seer for my dad.

I cut a napkin dispenser in half on my band saw. Not something I would have thought I would do with a band saw but damn if they aren't versatile!

I bought the internals from an Ask the Swami fortune teller from ebay. The episode featured a version of the Swami machine that spit out tickets but I found this and decided it would work. I actually like it more because he won't have to worry about finding the tickets and won't have them laying around. I did some cleaning and minor refurbishing and it works great!

Trying to get an idea of how I need to design the base.

A failed attempt to use epoxy to build the base. I might have been able to get it to work if I had been more patient but all of my fastener-based sins can be hidden and I was really running short on time!

I fabricated this base from a sheet of plastic (bent to my will), fasteners and a cloven napkin dispenser.

The base put together and cut to accept the Swami machine. Getting really excited here, I can actually try it at this point without using 1-2-3 blocks as support!

Things are coming together here. Just wanted to test fit everything and see what it all looked like together.

The front panel is bent and attached to the Swami machine. At this point, it is just attached via the (decorative) lock, later I added some screws in the top that hold custom clamps to hold the top of the Swami machine. I decided to do that rather than epoxy or screw into the original, 60+ year old Swami Machine. No point in destroying it.

Using magnets as clamps to glue the magnets that hold the side panels on. I decided to use magnetic side panels so the napkin dispensers can be easily refilled.

I 3D printed the front plaques and stars (which glow in the dark). The project is nearly complete, this is what it looks like when you insert a penny and hold down the lever for your fortune. The device works very much like a magic 8 ball.

The finishing touch of the diamond in the eye. I designed and 3D printed the base of the bobble head to accept a press fit magnet. This allows the bobble head to be easily removed when taking off the front panel to access the internals.

The original from the episode Nick of Time. Mine is not perfect or the same model of Ask the Swami but I am proud of how it turned out.
