FF is 1st Fighter Wing at Langley.

The F-22 is a more beautiful aircraft than the F-35, fight me
zHurk777
And both are witihout question a huge waste of taxpayer $$$T dollars. Without Question.
Why would anyone fight you on this? You're objectively correct.
Its way more beautiful and i shall not fight you sir!
TheGgreen100

Different kind of plane. The F-22 is a dedicated air superiority fighter, it's sole purpose is to kill other aircraft. The F-35 is a >>
>> multi-role aircraft that can do a little of everything. To be clear, it sucks at most of them.

Ikwilstroopwaffels
the F15 / 16 / 18 series are prettier than all of them.
Oh, for sure. My personal favorites are the F14, F16, and F18
Agree for f16 but not the other 2
RobotMenace
The F-35 is more versatile and cheaper per plane... but I can't disagree.
diezl97
The F35 is less capable than the A10 for CAS, the F/A18 for carrier, and the F-22 for air superiority. Overbudget and pointless.
SecondSince
Pure Air Superiority fighters tend to look cooler than multi-role aircraft. ;) (ps. i know the F-22 can do more than just AS, but still...)
Carl99
Ehh the F-22 got hit with a lesser version of the B-2 problem, small order pushed up the unit price well above where it should have been.
more versatile is fair though.
To be fair, we also haven't had a need for a large number of F-22's.
Sadly, only got 7 more years to appreciate it.
They say that about every aircraft and then when they're too cheap to replace them they keep them in service for 50 years.
SirBillington

Eh, not sure it'll apply to the F-22. It's too expensive to fly and maintain. The tech is from the 90's and can't be upgraded. There's
too few of them, and they're too short ranged for the next predicted outbreak of war in the Pacific. Plus they've got a replacement coming
Noahbalboa82

Not a miracle. Just incredible engineering. It's flying because a computer is making it stable. Same as the F22s.
colonelaronson
fly by wire!! I remember hearing about stability in fighter aircraft and wondered if the newer ones were stable or not. turns out not
ByThePowerOfSCIENCE
“Relaxed aerodynamical stability” makes it more responsive. FBW makes constant corrections to follow the commanded attitude.
Afaik inherent instability helps with extreme maneuvers. It's just that we couldn't really exploit it until we had good enough computing.
The more stable an aircraft is the less maneuverable.
I love how it goes from tradeoff to pure asset once we could just brute force compute for stability when it's needed
LetumComplexo
It’s also because stable shapes are much easier to detect with radar and these are stealth aircraft.
whatsisname
I'm pretty sure everything since the F-16 is impossible to control without the computers involved.
cmad182
Was the F-117A not the first one to use computers for stability?
F16 came before it, so doubt it.

Maybe. I know that the X-29 with forward swept wings was flying with a computer in the 80s because it was unflyable otherwise.
BrovoFoxtrot
How does that work?
justatinyduck

Spreckles450
The F22 computer is amazing. A kid could fly that plane. Just point the stick where you want the plane to go and the computer does the rest
BuckeyeBTH
1/2 Simple answer, theres a VERY complex matrix equation (9x9) that represents all the ways the plane can be controlled. Aero engineers
2/2 solve that equation and then program the flight computer to solve it continuously while the plane is flying, in order to keep it stable
v3rtabreaker
Oh god a 9*9 matrix equation and not some piece meal Lagrange equation… my brain hurts just thinking about it…
