Messier 106

These were lots of fun to paint.
They're all 50x50 cm, on stretched canvas.

Witch Head Nebula

Star-forming Region I

They're also for sale, if anyone is interested.

Beautiful, Messier 106 is my favourite. How do you manage to create the depth?

Started the entire canvas with a super dark blue, then layered yellow in the middle. Lots and lots of smudging more and lighter paint (1/?)

onto the middle, until I liked it, and then adding harsher color around the bottom and avoiding smudging (that was hard, I love (2/?)

smearing paint about). After that, more blue, lilac & yellow smudging in round streaks, then at the end adding contrasting shapes and (3/?)

colors and some white globs of paint with minimal smudging. Then some colorful flecks for good measure. (4/end)
