My completed Armored Ciri cosplay based on concept art for the Witcher 3 by Klaus Wittmann. I started this costume in mid September and as of yesterday FINALLY got pictures of the whole ensemble! Still going through them and will post others once I find my favorites.
Please excuse my awkward expression - this was one of like 40 pictures trying to replicate this pose and running to start the timer and back got old pretty quick lol. Just wanted a good side by side where the focus is on the outfit and this was the best/closest out of the bunch!

P.S., regarding the timer, maybe what ya need is a long stick with a fake finger on the end to poke the camera button while you're already in position. Then you can just drop the stick and do your cool poses!

I've said it many times but I love conventional female armor. More games need it! No boob plate or exposed midriff.

The stupid boob armor is why I only play male characters in Monster Hunter and any JTPG with a character customizer.
If it was optional fanservice I wouldn't mind, but I don't want this out of immersion looking bikini nonsense in my face.
I'm not even attracted to it.

I mean some male armors are also ridiculous but yes womens armor is usually the bad guy. There are some games where it is reversed but they are few. Showing skin in battle isn't the best.

The Witcher 3's bad release kindda got under the radar so I guess Cyberpunk was the real warning to them (fortunately for them the Netflix show raised raised interest for the game after it got mostly fixed), I hope they've learnt from their mistakes.

I never got through 3, even though I loved it. I keep getting to the same spot and get bored. There is too much game, and it burns you out. It's a fantastic game, just so much, like BG3. I am, however, super excited for 4. Sad, we won't play Geraltt bc I love Geraltt l, buts Ciri's time to shine. I'm also excited for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Its nice to see games coming out that people are hyped for.

only part that burned me out was 100%ing treasure pick up with the boat. played that at 7 times the speed. the rest of the game i played without cheating once. i will say i was never able to finish witcher 1 cause i could not for the life of me fig out how to get past a part and could not finish wither 2 cause a bug that crashed the game and i was like 80% into it.... 100% the shit out of witcher 3 tho

I dont think I did. I get halfway through Novigrad and then get burned out. I am a 100% gamer, so I try to do everything in an area before I move on. That includes treasures, caches, monsters, and side quests. So by the time I was done with the first area and got to the second, I was Witcher'd out.

I get it. And you're probably right, they're super memorable. If you get into it again, a suggestion from a stranger - balance 100% with story progression for variety. I also 100% played it, but when a little bored of loot chasing or gwent, move the story. When in the mood for more mindless play, Chase the %. Sympathies though. It was a bit of a slow start for me, but after bloody Baron and the botchling I was hooked until completion.

I can't speak for the original commenter, but I do have issues with some games where the character is just...well let's say over the top revealing clothing, or flat-out impractical. Pandering. Pic related.

I like being a dude. And when I play in a game, I like to play as if the character is me. I have exceptions, horizon being the most recent one. And the first ghost game was so good there's no way I'm not playing yotei. And ciri is such a great character I doubt I'll have any issues.

I am a woman myself, but I'll rarely ever play as a female character (in character creator games, with story games it doesn't matter to me) simply because of the outfits and armor available.
As a dude you get some badass armor that looks like it could tank a panzerfist, and as a woman ... silly eye candy bikini.
I wouldn't complain if both genders had the possibility for skimpy armor AND badass armor and you can choose, but I actually don't know any games where that's the case.

As a man I have the inverse of course. I enjoy playing women, especially because dude sounds have always made me uncomfortable. I think this started with terraria, where there's hardly a gender difference to begin with other than damage sounds. Versus Minecraft where I prefer the funny "oof" sound and will change it to that in modern versions. I do also greatly enjoy practical female armor, I agree male armor is way cooler most of the time. Cyberpunk 2077 is a good game that diverge there.

Gotta love imgur's knee-jerk. I think this is normal. I'm a man who doesn't enjoy playing male characters as much as female ones, but like you I don't really care enough for it to put me off of a good game. Thief, Vermintide, Darktide, and Dishonored being a few that I play with male characters. Note, Darktide has character creation. Having gender preferences is the most normal thing out there.

Probably because it's weird to like or dislike games based on the gender of the protagonist lmao. Everyone has gender preferences and will gravitate towards one or the other when given the option, but who tf is out here actively avoiding games just because the protagonist doesn't align with their gender preferences??? Nah, that's weird as hell and I'd have the same reaction if the genders were completely reversed in this situation.

Discomfort in a leisure activity is the best reason to not do something. Some people like skydiving, some people like adult novels. If the protagonist of a novel doesn't relate to a person they may not read the next book, or even finish one. FauxFoxPaw also, as mentioned, cited stories where his preference wasn't important because he loved it so much. It's weird not to allow preferences, especially because we KNOW inclusion of all perspectives matters greatly to enjoyability of various media.

Are we really not questioning why someone finds something uncomfortable because of the *gender* of the protagonist?? That's insane. I have my own gender preferences but never once have I consumed a piece of media and gone "this would have been better if the protagonist was a different gender." Look man, this is the internet, you're allowed to do whatever you want. But don't expect to share weird ass opinions and not have anyone push back on them.

I think the knee-jerk reaction comes because the witcher 4 is already in a „controversy“ because of the female lead. And I for one hate gamer-boy bigots who hate everything that is remotely pc or woke. Even if that just means you play a woman.

The controversy is not that Ciri is the main character. Anyone that played the games, read the books or both would love to finally play as her. The main problem is that they made her a witcher wich makes absolutely 0 sense lore wise

Sure, but what FauxFoxPaw said is anything but abnormal. The knee-jerk tends to be a wild overreaction to a sentence that means exactly what it says. It's a jump to a conclusion. He even cited games he plays that are so good the gender of the PC didn't bother him. A male PC is just a selling point, not a make-or-break. I really tried to look for a controversy in his statement, and I can't find it. I get your take though, it's rough being a woman who plays games, it fucking sucks even.

Yeah I get what you mean. But his sentence was as an answer directed to the OP if she is hyped for the new game. So he answered a question not directed at him with a statement that can easily be interpreted as him rejecting female lead games entirely (albeit the occasional exception). I dont think the knee-jerk reaction was too abnormal as well. Because when I saw the wuestion to OP I clicked to see her reply not some rando whose opinion on female lead games I dont want to know.

So far, by far the dumbest "controversy" for me. In W3 Geralt retires on the wine good, and one of the endings is Ciri becoming a witcher. Ciri taking the lead is what I expected tbh.
And the "oh, ugly Ciri" whining is utterly stupid for me. She looks hella fine, just a few years older and more ragged than last time because of her lifestyle.
It's exactly the same whining as seen with the design of DMC3 to DMC5 Lady.
Both girls in both iterations are really attractive, for forbid they could AGE.
