Certainly helps, but I'm 20 minutes from a decent sized city. A Skytech CLS-CCD filter helps cut light pollution.

200$ and a bit of tinkering can get you a setup to photograph moon, jupiter and saturn quite nicely

Thanks! A basic star tracker is a few hundred bucks and will work with a normal camera and lens. A Star Adventurer by Sky-Watcher is a (1)
