I started an anti-depressant last week.

I've been struggling with depression for years, but I've always been able to manage before.

This time feels different. I'm in a rough patch right now and my resilience is spent.

I reached out for help because I was afraid of what I might do - afraid of what that little voice was saying:

Your family will be better without you.
No one will notice you're gone.
None of this matters - you're suffering for nothing.
You can make it all go away, it would be so easy.
Just rest, let it go, the struggle isn't worth it.
You're used up. Garbage. Just get out of the way, no one cares.

I'm trying hard to frame the meds as something other than a defeat, something besides an admission that there's something broken in my brain and I'm just a pathetic loser who can't function in the real world.

I don't really have a message of hope or anything at the moment - my journey has just begun, but if you are out there struggling too, reach out - don't do anything stupid. I can't say for certain that it will get better, but if we can get past the shame we can find a way back from the edge.

At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Thanks for listening random stranger.

Dog tax.

Everyone is messed up in one way or another. The only losers are the ones that give up without trying all the solutions, meds included.

You deserve to get time to find and remember that you have people and things in your life that you value.

Its not defeat. Its help. To get you back on track, mentally. It's not permanent. Let it help you and then be stronger for coming off them

You just can’t see them right now because of the darkness. Be kind and patient with yourself.

Shit son. I've been there. It is absolutely terrifying. Starting the pills was terrifying also, because I didn't want to be on pills.

That's like calling your car a loser because it needs the oil changed.

It’s 2018, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with benefiting from modern medical science, no matter what the vegan soccer mom bloggers say

There's nothing wrong with taking medication for an illness. If it keeps you from killing yoself take them: nothing after death choose life.

The meds are a light in the darkness. They will help until you are able to find your own light but until then they help .

This was me a few years back. It feels like biting a bullet and swallowing your pride now, but soon it will be so much better. You are loved

It took me a while to get a hang of the pressing down and turning. Put your mind to it, and you'll be an expert in no time.

Had a brother that was diabetic. Felt the same - hated doctors, felt he could fix his problem himself. Still pissed that he died instead

of treating the diabetes. There are millions of ppl that have organ issues, cancer, all treatable. Brains no different - its just scarier.

I'm sorry that your brain is fucking cross-wired. You need to listen to your friends, family and doctors - don't cash out - it gets better.

It's not defeat. Is it defeat for a diabetic to take insulin? Your brain doesn't make enough happy chemicals

up...prepare for some weird dreams. Drinking is safe on them, but tends to weaken their effect until you get the chemicals built up again &

Do your research on these drugs before they get their hooks in. Look up "Anatomy of an Epidemic" by Robert Whitaker. It's worth your time.

I only share this bc of personal experience with the heavy cost of these drugs. Feel free to message me if you'd like to talk more. :)
