Scomo can go shuck himself if he thinks he's going to try to make it mandatory to track the location of everyone in the country. That's the making of a dystopian nightmare, even more than the one we're currently living. That is one law I will happily be arrested for breaking.

Yeah we need to make the biggest bag in the world, fill it full of dicks & then mail it to him.

Lick my balls Scomo. You dropped the fucking ball with the bushfires, and you’re shit at this too.

Data! Mooooooar!

ohmygodtheysaidnewzealand
It’s so they can notify you if you’ve been exposed to anyone with Covid19. Makes sense to me. But I just stay at home or walk my dog so NBD
StarkRG
That's basically my routine, too. I still don't want to give the government access to that information.

We have similar app in india. Narrative differs. Its not about tracking you but warning you if you come near a potential covid carrier
repostmodern
Population health VS paranoia. Fight!
StarkRG
Not wanting to have your position tracked isn't paranoia.
repostmodern
Depends on the situation. And if you live in a dictatorahip or not. Do you? I have just installed such an app and hope most do.

This is the same guy who wants to use the taxpayers' superannuation to bail out Virgin Airlines, who is from the same government that 1/.
Porecomesis
recommended Australians take money out of their superannuation to pay for homes. 2/2
johnnyratbastard
Same guy who fucks off on holiday during bushfires. What a leader.
darkhawkclaw
If you read the story carefully it says they are going to trial the app "voluntarily" at first. Tells ya something not right?
StarkRG
It doesn't take much care to notice that, however, I don't see anything stopping him if he decides to make it mandatory.
darkhawkclaw
Sounds like a problem to me.
StarkRG
I'll just stop carrying my phone with me. They can track the position of my home all they want.
darkhawkclaw
Simple solution. Except when I leave my phone home my wife ups my ass because she needed something from the servo or Coles
StarkRG
Well, she can go out and get it then. Petrol is under $1/litre, it's fine.

He was questioned by a journo at a press conference on that exact question and he replied if we have to, or something to that effect.
michaelpaice2
What if a) you don't have a smartphone or b) the one you have is full, like mine?
StarkRG
I don't know about (a), but I'm pretty sure, in the case of (b), you'd be required to remove something to install it.
michaelpaice2
Nothing I'd want to delete! It really is a tiny memory!
StarkRG
That's just it, though, it's not about what you want, it's about what ScoMo wants.
ReachingForTheStars
Wait you guys think they need an app to track us? Lol u make me laugh.. This app actually may do not good than harm. Delete it later?
StarkRG
If it's mandatory it would be illegal to delete.
ReachingForTheStars
Hmm oh you think they will keep it in our phones for every? Knowing us, prob no more than 2020.
StarkRG
If mandatory, then they could easily make it a requirement for police to check your phone to make sure it's installed. Possibly remotely.
ReachingForTheStars
Yes but prob not after this year or till we have a vaccine.. At the end of the day, I am okay with this if it helps save lives.
StarkRG
Because, historically, governments give up powers they've been granted without a fight. Like how the us have up the USAPATRIOT act, right?
CtrlAltJesse
They already can do that though?
StarkRG
Not without a warrant. This is the equivalent of issuing a blanket warrant on everyone in the country.

ChubbyStubs
They can but not legally.
IrrationalNumber
That's what tinfoil hatters say atleast.
StarkRG
Google and Apple can and, to some extent, do. I abhor that as well, but it's nowhere near as bad as the government making it law.
StarkRG
That's how Google tracks traffic, for example. Apple probably does too.
IrrationalNumber
2> at which point a message is sent to the other users of the app so their phone can check if you have been in the same locations as the 2>
IrrationalNumber
Depends on how its done. The app could store all the tracking data locally and only be accessed by doctors when you test positive 1>
IrrationalNumber
3> infected person in the last week or two.
StarkRG
It's apparently sorta like that, and, apparently, doesn't involve tracking location, but uses bluetooth to track nearby people. And, sure,
StarkRG
I'm fine with people using it on a voluntary basis, but I am not ok with it being mandatory.
