He is not the only one just doing sermons. There is an actual modern effort by conservatives trying to rewrite school books reflecting this blatant lie. They continue to shift the blame of slavery to the victims of slavery.
Reminder, this is the father of Anna Duggar... Yes THAT Anna Diggar.
It doesn't take much effort to put holes in the obvious flaws of these "lessons".
My little sister can't live anywhere in the United States without having to run into someone who's going to try and rewrite a part of her heritage here in the Americas.
Am I the only one who finds it maddening that the tactics of slave owners from over 200 years ago to bury real events is still prevalent in the United States?
But hey, they can do this and just label descendants of slaves and critics like me as being "Woke" and then fake outrage on Fox news or OAN while blatantly pulling crap like this.

Fat pile of waste

What a repugnant pig, like really? Yikes, no words, it’s unbelievable.

Preachers don't get anywhere by telling people the truth. Their whole profession is based on lies.

“They taught them to read”? There were anti-literacy laws in place that prevented that.

“They taught them to read the Bible” fuck no it was illegal to educate your slaves! This guy has brain slugs

Why didn't the people, who were in chains and have no pto, no access to transportation, no protection from reprisals, no way of organizing off property (let alone across state lines), and no means of communicating ideas across distance, just organize a protest?
QuitLookinAtMineAim
Lol pto. To be fair(?), if they went they'd get paid the same as any other day... of course they weren't allowed to leave either...
ahorseelbowdeepinme
I feel like I read a story somewhere where a slave owner gave a slave the evening off so he could court a slave at a neighboring plantation so pedanticly you could argue they got time off but I doubt any were getting enough time off to go to DC and protest
sadurdaynight
"Back when the Spartans ruled Sparta.. did the slaves ever go to the capitol and have a revolt!?" No. Because every society that has owned slaves has put in place a system of checks-n-balances to keep the slaves in line. They used eugenics to breed the most compliant slaves while terminating (as an example to others) the rabble-rousers. The slave owners of the US spent years doing the same to black slaves. Breed the strongest and most compliant. They bred them to work long hours in the heat 1/

while not losing much sodium. So, now a lot of African American decedents retain too much sodium from our salt-rich diets and are easy candidates for high blood pressure. In Sparta, they were a highly trained military class not to defend themselves from other countries.. but to keep the slaves in line and put down slave revolts./
Nunyajonesinc
They couldn't go to DC and have a rally BECAUSE THEY WERE FUCKING SLAVES

Mix it up the insults a little bit. "Overgrown turd-muffin" comes to mind

They say that when you insult someone when in an argument then you just lost that argument. That's true. Unless the insult is directed at Nazis. Nazis don't get to win arguments.
rubypilgrim
Just FYI, slavery is still legal in the US. The loophole in the 13th says no slavery unless you're serving time as a convicted criminal. Our prison system is not designed to be remedial.

Unfortunately true.

Well, technically... Ulysses S. Grant once owned a slave (William Jones) for about a year. Not much is known about this relationship, but Grant freed him w/o constraints (no payback). I've heard that at the time, the value of Jones would have made that act about the same as giving away your house. https://acwm.org/blog/myths-misunderstandings-grant-slaveholder/ interesting reading on the evolution of Grant's take on slavery.
MCNewYorkLives
Iirc, he owned him through some weird inheritance, either through his wife or family (rather than him going out and purchasing him). Of course, please correct me if I'm wrong
Hyzenthlay021
"Grant did in fact own a man named William Jones for about a year on the eve of the Civil War. In 1859, Grant either bought or was given the 35-year-old Jones, who was in Grant’s service until he freed him before the start of the War." From the article. Likely given to him, Some sources say by his father-in-law, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive reference. Doubt Grant had the money to be able to afford to buy a slave at that time.
MCNewYorkLives
I just read that and I think it shows how important it is to put things into perspective. Yes, it is wrong to own slaves and we shouldnt be ok with every slaveowner bc "that was the way of life", however, when you grow up seeing that as a normal life, it becomes hard to immediately see the evils. I mean look at farmers. Livestock can be extremely vicious and cruel, yet many people normalize it bc "that's how it is".
MCNewYorkLives
In the future, we may collectively realize that it's wrong to raise livestock for slaughter, but we can't judge someone now as unredeemable evil for doing it
VictusVonGuyver
But this is way over a century. He didn't grow up with that kind of slavery as a norm. Yet here he is practically praising it for civilizing and forcefully indoctrinating them into a religion. I can judge this as irredeemably evil.
MCNewYorkLives
Wait, who? The preacher? No defense for that guy

He's the patriarch of a line of upstanding Christians. He's the father of Christian reality TV star Anna Duggar—whose husband is serving a prison sentence for child pornography.

Racists are morons. I bet all of his congregation members nodded in agreement, indicating that he was correct regarding the history of African slaves.

Just another Christofascist trying to rewrite history because they don’t want to take the blame for slavery. These MF are still trying to enslave blacks with their voter suppression laws and not letting anyone drop off their ballots and not letting anyone give them water in line waiting to vote! The Christofascist Republican Nazi Party must be squashed and never allowed to have power in this country EVERY AGAIN!!
Hyzenthlay021
I want to down vote you for making me listen to this. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, I heard the same damn faulty logic for 18 years. Didn't go to Washington to protest? like "Oh, massa, can we have the month off to walk 700 miles to D.C. to protest you owning us?" "Why sure, take all the PTO you like, ya'll worked hard gettin' that cotton in this year, so have a nice trip."
VictusVonGuyver
I understand, and believe me, I sometimes just want to shut the app off when similar content pops up. Stuff like bugs you just as much as me and the thousands of others on the platform. We end up sharing this to show everyone that we can't relax yet, that these people are affecting the nation. They have their hands in politics and their rhetoric is being pushed into schools. Where are the messages reminding each other that the more we ignore it, the more you'll see it as shared opinion.

.and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.. we all feel it and it's global.
Hyzenthlay021
LOL, My brother just reminded me that going to D.C. would be putting them in abolitionist states. Told him I wished I had thought of that before I had written my comment "Now I's trustin' ya'll not to run off on your way to Washington, we gots' plantin' to get done next month if'n I's gonna be able to buy my wife that new ball gown."

Possibly the most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard. Actually no…definitely the most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard.

Just wait 5 minutes, they will continue to get worse.

Insane, yes, but it's not new at all. Bringing Christianity to slaves is just about the oldest defense of slavery. A Bishop in georgia said in 1855 "I may say millions have learned the way to Heaven and who have been made to know their Savior through the means of African slavery" and that no one should worry about the oppressive violence since their souls were being saved in the process.

Trump really did a number on the stupid Americans, and it emboldened any number of racists and racist apologists, bigots and grifters to think that anything goes. To think that not only did he not get jailed for his shit, he literally blames everyone else for doing what he is doing. Meanwhile he's running again. Bloody hell America, what the fuck..
WrathOfJigglypuff
They were there all along. Trump just taught that them that it was OK to be a racist asshole and they started shouting about it from the rooftops. They were always there though.

It was already weird enough to be around religious people trying to explain life to everyone….. did you know men an women HAVE THE SAME NUMBER OF RIBS???

I mean we are talking religion here, and the antithesis to religion is logic.

We are in such danger of descending past a point of no return that it's hard to believe that we CAN come back at this point.

As an outsider, yes, it looks that way.

Fascism has taken roots in hearts and minds of the MAGA cult. Fascism is an evil known all too well. If you do not purge fascists with every once of strength they will corrupt you from within. And you will either face salvation from external or suffer under that yoke. I think we are fucked, right now.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
I feel that American politicians seem to expect the "checks and balances" and the "moral code of the masses" will be robust enough to withstand this sort of thing. Thing is, it's never really been tested before, not like this anyway, and it seems a brave person who relies on hope and optimism when failure would lead to great suffering.
DSREX
I will say I see it being tested right now. And the only checks and balances going on are quickly being eroded or being shown to be facades. Example is SCOTUS, they are supposed to be in check by Congress. And they have flat refused to be subject to that. The President's role is to nominate them, and congress to keep them honest. Well that was an illusion and we are all getting fucked by it now.
