When measuring a hidden currentdraw in the car, that is draining your battery you will want to place the meter in the groundcable between chassis and battery. You may also want to short both measurement leads before hooking it up as e.g. the central-locking of the car may blow the internal fuse of the multimeter. Only remove the green cable once all peakdraws or even all residual regular currentdraw (e.g. the ECU before it goes to sleep after 5 minutes) have subsided. Don't forget to put the green wire back before unlocking the car again!
The green wire will not receive ALL current, but will greatly reduce the chance of blowing the (in my case >10$ fast-blowing) fuse.
