One of the most successful independent films ever made and one of the most popular comic book films in the pre-shared universe era, TMNT 1990 is an exhilarating and nuanced take on the inherently silly source material. Far darker than the animated show, the impressive suits from Jim Henson (one of the last projects before his passing) and the fight choreography elevated the movie and thrilled fans of all ages. The turtles have well-drawn personalities and relational quirks. The movie also knows when to slow down and meditate, literally. An early CBM that holds up.

This is my favorite movie! The effects, the humor; everything. I watched the VHS so much I still have the preceding Pizza Hut commercial practically memorized. My sister and I met Judith Hoag at a convention in OKC last year and she was so much fun to talk with.

I was SO excited when TMNT came out on the big screen. For the time, it was up there with Who's Afraid of Roger Rabbit, Ghostbusters 2, and Home Alone to me.
