There are dozens of us! Dozens!

Quick backstop. No I wasn't in the military so maybe military grade MREs are horrible. But the ones I had were amazing. Especially beef stew. Ever since I had my first beef stew MRE I prefer the taste of canned stuff.

Also I wasn't sure if I should have used this or a confession bear.

Also also...anyone with better knowledge of MREs feel free to explain better in the comments. But for those who don't know its a meal on the go kinda thing. I think it stands for Made Ready to Eat. And you basically take your dried food, mix with water, and put in a little bag that cooks the food for you. It's great and delicious.

I agree, if you haven't eaten in several days MREs are delicious, imo.

I'm the only one I know that likes the veggie omelet

If you filled the cooking pouch with water to the top then sealed it...food bomb.

I love them. Everything about them. The food itself is adequate-good. The cooking mechanisms are just plain fun to use.. I still 1/

It's been about....9 years since I've had one. Have they further improved since then or am I getting the same kind you had?

/2 remember the tactile pleasure of holding the hot pouch while it bubbles and heats your food. It's just so cool. Best part of boot camp.

Military MREs are acceptable for like one meal.. eat them for more than a couple days and you hate them..

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I figured that was the general opinion on them. I never had to eat them for more than a couple days haha.

Rock or something.

I had them extensively when I was in Civil Air Patrol in the late 90s early 00s. Some were really good. Avoid cheese spread and the cracker

If you didn't become constipated. It wasn't a real MRE.

It's meals ready to eat. My dad use to bring them from work (army) all the time when I was a kid. It was great loll

The MREs now are delicious. The older ones were not. IDK when they changed, but the ones I had in the early 90s were vastly different than 1

Ahhhhh that might be why I thought this was an unpopular opinion. I don't think I've heard of opinions on the newer stuff. Until now anyway.

the ones they had in 2009 (which I assume they still have). 2

First strike rations is where it's at

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's that? :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same thing as an mre, but higher qualitayyyy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't know anything about American MREs, but the Norwegian ones are pretty good :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The hot water is good for making coffee after heating them up. ...or not.

As an active duty Sergeant in the Corps I can tell you that eating them everyday for 30+ days will ruin your appetite for them. Try it...

Lol I think that can be said about most things though. Chicken makes me want to puke but that's because I ate it 3 times a week for like 4

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Months. Oh and granola. But I imagine it's a bit worse in your case because you might not have a choice.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At least chicken is good protein. MRE's are pure preservatives/salt that give me Horrible acid reflux. I bring a bottle of TUMS to the field

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh I feel you on the acid reflux... That can't be pleasant over there.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

scores even.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of the new ones are great... until you have to eat them for 6 months... and you only get 24 choices if you get to the cases first

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do they still come with the tiny Tabasco bottle in them?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was about 9 years ago when I had them so I have no idea. I know it had salt and pepper so I don't see why it wouldn't have Tabasco sauce

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's "Meal Ready to Eat" and it's combat rations. If you're not in the military you're not getting what they get.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can get regular military MREs without being in the service. I've even seen them at surplus stores. Same ones I had in the Guard.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They gave me the same stuff in boot as I got from FEMA after hurricane Ike. While AFAIK they aren't for sale, there are ways to get them.

The Air Force Camp I went to is close to our main Army base and they dumped a lot of the rations on to us for the first few days of camp.

The ones I had to eat in the 90s were horrible with few exceptions. The stew, spaghetti or mac and cheese were ok. Never eat ones with egg.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Ugh I can barely handle properly cooked eggs...MREs would have killed me.

Tuna with noodles fan, reporting for duty, sir!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That veggie omelet though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The peanut butter is okay but the cheese spread is foul. And mini Tabasco sauce was a nice touch. We never got the heat pack. Always cold.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Cold stew is great though. Hot or cold...just...mmmm. Straight out the can. I'm hungry.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You grab one, don't pick and choose. Asshole non operational guys always grab them all and leave the shit behind us men doing God's work.

I loved the "potatoes au gratin". But it was more like potato balls in a pool of cheese-food. So salty, and so good! And the ravioli was...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...Good. reminded me of the Chef whats-his-face in a can. But I think after a fucked up hike, I was down to eat anything. Lol
