Laser cut from EVA foam. I joined a local Makerspace (community workshop with various tools for crafters and makers) in order to access a laser cutter. It’s really a great option for people who want to make stuff but don’t have the funds (or the space) to buy 3D printers, laser cutters, woodshop tools, etc. Link pattern from BenE (I used his tutorial on Instructables)!

I see massive potential here for different color or pattern variations to make custom designs on those links. Of course, they wouldn't be cosplay-accurate, but they'd be *really* cool. Also, you know I gotta ask what the shop pup's name is!

For sure!! I’ve seen some people add a leaf to the bottom of the link so it becomes dragon scale maille! And his name is Griff :)

Ooh, I bet that looks nice! I'm imagining something like rectangular links instead of round, made with gold paint. Then put that under some black armor for a "Dwarven royal guard" type getup. Actually, that could also work for fancy Nilfgaardian armor too! (Also pls give Griff extra scritches for me next time you see him)

Huh. That's a pretty ingenious way to do the maille. Been making maille for a couple decades now, and this is the first time I've encountered this method, it's brilliant. It looks great, and at a glance, I doubt anyone would be able to tell it's not the real thing. That, and it doesn't take a bajillion years to knit together like it does with actual steel rings, heh.

I was super happy when I found this alternative!! It definitely doesn’t lay the same but I am happy with the effect. I really considered doing actual maille but was honestly super daunted by the time commitment - mad props to you!

Not just a time commitment, although it definitely is that. It's also quite rough on one's hands. I know when I was starting out, I couldn't work at it for more than an hour before my hands got too tired to work any more. Painful too, until the callouses are built up. Though, my working with 14g steel wire might have something to do with that, haha! Either way though, your method is an excellent alternative, and definitely the way to go!

According to my kitchen scale, each sleeve is about 10 grams! Super lightweight
