Actually no. It's a historical misconception that Hugo Boss designed the Nazi/SS uniforms. His company was merely "conscripted" to produce them.

No, I'm not having that. He was supplying uniforms as early as 1924, long before the Nazis had any ability to compel him to do anything. Furthermore he was a longstanding and early member of the party, and met with Hitler personally more than once. He also used slave labour to make those uniforms during the war. Get the fuck outta here with that "conscripted" shit

All of that is true, which is precisely why I put “conscripted” in quotation marks. At the time, almost all major German companies and industrialists had an indeed problematic relationship with the regime. On the one hand, they resented the government’s involvement in their businesses, on the other, they were rather easily convinced to accept government contracts, as well as the “free labour” provided by the regime that you have mentioned.

An ambivalence that they later, after the war, often tried to explain with exactly that “conscripted” argument. Boss was certainly no different in this regard or hypocrisy and my argument was not intended as a defence of the man or his company, merely as a correction of a minor misconception.
