I did not even know one could compete in the olympics at age 14, super awesome and I hope she posts about the duck and their adventures.

You have to have more than 1 duck since they get lonely so it sounds like she’s getting 2 ducks at least. She can name them Goldie and Paris

Tony is a Hawk though, not a Duck. He was in the stands and did congratulate her after her win. Arisa was the first woman to land a 900 earlier in the year too.

Imagine winning gold at the Olympics at 14 fucking years old.

Does that count as peaking early? Seems hard to top.

Nadia Comaneci was 14 when she scored the first perfect 10 ever.

Reminds me of that time I saw a post about how parents promised their kid a dog for doing something similar. When they jumped back on their promise someone else stepped in and gave her one.

Apparently she and her training partner (Sirvio 13yo Finn, who came fifth) were playing with Barbies in the Olympic village. When they perform these incredible feats, it's easy to forget that kids are kids
VaultGirl69
Nah. We're just really old. But, we are the same at heart. I mean, who doesn't like a good duck.
jesuisgur
Yeah, many disagree but I think only adults should compete at the olympics, doesn't matter if some youngsters are better.
drowninginthesouth
And with a good medal. Truly impressive.
DidItForScience
And she can skaaaaaaate. The whole generation of kids are insane, it's crazy how people build on the generation before. And there are so many more female skaters than when I was 16 in the '90s. I used to skate wtih Jamie Reyes when she was 14 and she was phenomenal for the time. But like I said, the kids now are on another level.
jonReremy9669
the youngest at the games is 11.............
Haohao Zheng 11. year. old. olympian. eleven
(pictured here with the oldest at these games (he's on the horse (on the right)))

I looked him up: “The oldest competitor at the Paris Olympics is 65-year-old Spaniard, Juan Antonio Jimenez Cobo, who made his equestrian Summer Games debut at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.”

Youngest gold medal winner, I believe, ever.
lazerfrog
Oh boy, time for one of my favourite bits of trivia. The youngest gold medal winner was likely the cox of the Dutch men’s rowing in 1900, who is also the only anonymous Olympic medal recipient. They pulled a kid from the crowd to replace their cox, and then won. The kid, who they guessed to be around eight, disappeared into the crowd before the medal ceremony, nobody k owes who he was. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rowing_at_the_1900_Summer_Olympics?wprov=sfti1#Coxswain_mystery
kingkongkeom
No that's some prime introvert shit...
"Fine, I'll do it and win for you, but I'm gonna hate it the whole time and will fuck off, no discussion, right after the race. Always me, fuck sake, I wanted to stay home but noooooo, come outside it will be nice. Fuck you mum."
morningxafter
Not quite. 13 year old speed skater Kim Yun-Mi of Korea won gold in 1994. 4 other 13 year olds have won gold in other sports as well. Arisa here, is one of 5 14 year olds to have won. She is however the youngest Aussie to win gold. Also interesting fact: she wasn’t even the youngest competitor in her event. That distinction goes to Zheng Haohao an 11 year old skateboarder from China.
TsubakiTragic
Youngest Aussie to win an Olympic gold medal
Larzemagne
Not quite. The gold medalist for women's street skateboarding at the Tokyo Olympics was only 13 years old. The youngest ever Olympic gold medalist was a female speedskater who was 13 years, 86 days old when she won at Lillehamer in 1992. The youngest Summer Olympic gold medalist was 13 years, 267 days when she won a springboard diving event in Berlin in 1936. Trew's accomplishment is nevertheless very, very special and I'll be curious to see where she goes from here.
PathologicalLier
Shes honna go downwards (and then again upwards and back down or whatever you do in a halfpipe or bowl)
Larzemagne
edit: Lillehammer was 1994 (facepalm). The young champion there was Kim Mun-Yi. The youngster who won in Berlin was named Marjorie Gestring, and Momiji Nishiya was the aforementioned women's skateboarding champion in Tokyo (those were the first games where skateboarding was a competitive event).
zerosava
she sounds younger than i remember 14 sounding, but that was over 30 years ago for me so i am probably wrong. anyway, hope she doesn't get disillusioned by how absolutely nasty duck shit is. remember, folks ducks is birds and birds has got only the one waste hole for both 1 & 2, meaning... eternal diarrhea! seriously, we had three ducks when I was a kid and their shit got everywhere and it was disgusting.
Theory89
Well, *technically* it's called spumen, and it's halfway between poop and wee. So not quite diarrhoea, but still messy.

Fuck of she doesn't I'm gonna get her one god damnit!
LateNightBunnyParty
She better get a few. They're a flock animal, they like having lots of other ducks to play with. Also, she better be ready for just SO much mess. So much. I like my ducks, but I've got land and decades of experience.
samwyze
Do you think that getting a gold in the Olympics was just the parents' way to get her to shut up about getting a duck? She took it to heart, and 7 years later BAM! Pay up, folks! She did what was asked.
killernerd
at that point you've both won and lost as a parent. What are you gonna do? Deny your daughter who just won a gold medal in the fucking Olympics a duck?
NuclearMonk
For gold, I think she deserves a platypus
Putitinyomama
Remember when that ice skater got an Akita personally from the PM of Japan for winning?
RecurringNightmare
otherwise the president of france will have to gift her one so she can take her presidental duck onto walks...

Even if her parents don't, I'm sure someone will. Like maybe the QLD Premier or something, aha.
