$1.99 a pound for ground beef in 2026?

I’m not saying Amazon is hiding anything in there… but I WOULD like to know what animal signed off on this price.

Seriously, what are we buying here?

Everywhere else, ground beef has gotten expensive enough that you notice it.

Then Amazon comes strolling in at $1.99 a pound like nothing happened.

I’m impressed.

I’m also a little concerned.

Because when the price is that low, my first thought is no longer “great deal.”

It’s “what exactly did they grind up?”

It's $8 a pound when I looked it up. I wouldn't eat Amazon meat though anyway.

My view shows it out of stock. Next best is a 3 pack of the same thing for $19.77 ($6.59/lb)

Yeah, those prices don't jive. Not touching the Amazon mystery meat.

I just got a $1.99 12 pack of Coke Zero. It's a promo to get people to order groceries from Amazon. The second pound is likely a lot more.

Suspicious. I can see it listed at that price, but it can't be shipped to my location. Thing is, I'm in a major metropolitan area, and there's a full-size Amazon distribution center less than a 10 minute walk from my house. I CAN get the ones that are more realistically priced, but not the cheap one.

You have to be in Argentina to get the delivery... maybe it helps to know where it's from ?

Amazon is selling something they've labeled as beef, but since it is Amazon, they won't tell you where it was sourced. And their package has a distinctive lack of *Product of USA* on it. They can't tell you if it is tainted, either, because they don't know.

I'm sure it's not made from Amazon employees who were caught taking breaks during their shifts, or something

Amazon does this whenever they want to take over a market. They drop their prices to absurd levels to push out competitors then jack them wayyyyy up above market average.

Taking a page out of Walmart's book

A lot of product designs were stolen from smaller companies and sold as amazon basics.

If it takes a few days to get to me... there might be issues with the Best Before Date.

Given that this is Amazon it's most likely them selling at a loss in order to drive competitors out of business... at least, that's the normal assumption w/them

On any other day I might agree. But with Horse Meat on the menu and all that USDA failed beef. There is zero chance that it is a good idea to consume that.

I have heard the same, but it is more an honesty thing.
