Supposedly MAGA influencers are dragging Trump over this because they all turned over a new leaf after Kirk was shot. I'm not sure what's up with the sudden pivot. My best guess is that they realized they went mask off too soon and it was threatening the coup, so now they're trying to go back to performative civility both to shield themselves from criticism and to try to paint the center and left as "deranged" for calling fascists "fascists."

They are condemning it because their words are a constant incitement to violence against the left. Now Trump is saying that words can incite others to violence. They don't want to change their tune, so what he said must not be right!

Maybe, but in those situations they usually just kind of gloss over the disagreement with Trump and move on. They're actually criticizing Trump directly right now, which seems to be part of a broader pattern of the GOP suddenly deciding to buck Trump, which is undoubtedly not about some sort of come to Jesus moment. I would assume that the money backing the movement is just not getting what it wanted from Trump and is trying to move on to Vance.

I always said that it doesn't mean anything what anyone other than a GOP politician says. Now there are cracks appearing in the unwavering support he once saw. Nothing is going to change over night, but it is encouraging to see. I think his power is waning partly because he is tanking the mid term elections for the GOP and partly because that may be the last election he has any influence over.
