If you play The Sims, it's fairly self explanatory. Mortimer Goth is one of the default Sims in the starting neighbourhood. To advance in a job track, you usually require a certain number of friends. You can gain friendship by interacting with people, so the player-controlled Sim just shows up at the Goth house and asks to dance over and over, etc.
