I think "football" is a fucking joke because the most homophobic, trump supporting dudes on the planet cannot get enough of 60ish sweaty dudes touching yarballs and hugging eachother for 3hours. And all they bitch about is a successful woman? Incelosphere at it's finest.
I'm not right wing at all and can't stand trump, but what's really homophobic is your making the very tired and unoriginal stance of nfl football being "sweaty guys in tights hugging." The game is violent as fuck. Equating nfl tackles to hugging is silly.
There's a secret 3rd option. I'm a Taylor fan, love the NFL, and I'm skipping this Super Bowl. The Chiefs vs 49ers is the most boring matchup anyone could imagine.
I haven't watched football in over 20 years, couldn't pick Taylor out of a lineup 6 months ago, had no clue who this Kelce guy was. Now that I look in to them they both seem to be amazing people, extremely talented, like can't even find anyone saying anything bad about them (ones that actually meet them). They almost have me interested in wasting time watching sports (almost). Anyway, I thought MAGA was already boycotting the NFL.....
I'm starting to think, and I feel I have a bit of evidence to back this: But Taylor Swift might be some kinda big deal in America from what I can tell.
To be fair, it is also discussed in the pre-game show, the post-game show, you can bet on it and it's all over sports social media. It also didn't just arrive, it's been like this for the past 10 games +/-. I honestly don't think this is political, I think football fans are just sick of the sideshow. They want to tune into the pre-game show to hear football analysis - not see more segments on TSwift. Fans are also kind of sick of the Chiefs, who are in the midst of a dynasty, which some hate.
I saw this morning on CNN, they did an analysis of Taylor Swift's coverage during last night's game. TSwift was on camera for a total of..... (drum rollll)....... 33 seconds. People are so goddamned stupid.
The worst thing is that I just want to be a football fan who doesn't mind Taylor Swift but doesn't need to see her in her luxury seating a dozen times a game reacting every time her boyfriend does something, but now there's no middle ground. You're either a Swifty or a MAGA.
During one of the cutaways on yesterday's broadcast, it looked like she was done with all this as well. She was just trying to talk to her friends, they pointed at a TV, and her expression was like, 'leave me alone.'
It’s not like they’re cutting gameplay to show her, it’s just camera downtime. They showed Barry Sanders and Joe Montana and thousands of other fans between plays too. Who cares?
I don't even blame Taylor Swift. She can't go out to dinner without it making press. I blame the people who need to tell me "where she ate in Argentina"
I just don't wanna watch it because I'm from Vegas and an obligate fan of the Raiders. Seeing the inevitable Chiefs victory in our own stadium will hurt.
A reminder literally the only reason redhats hate her is because she told young people to register to vote. She didn't even tell them WHO to vote for. That's how much Republicans hate young people.
There are quite a few people that follow the NFL, but not Taylor Swift. You can't argue that this is an increase in publicity, no matter how much she has on her own.
Only conservatives are pissy about Taylor Swift. Conservatives don't care about players' health. If anything knowing that football is bad for the players long term is likely to make them like football even more. Conservatives love suffering.
Meh, I'm not conservative but I have an extreme dislike for celebrity bullshit like gawking over them doing normal mundane things like just watching a game. It hasn't been one game. It's just about every game and even other games she's not even at. And they cut to her reaction multiple times. Not even owners get that kind of air time. I am annoyed enough just listening to Chris Collinsworth saying stupid shit. Please and thank you
I am a firm believer that the NFL is at least partially rigged sometimes by people with lots of money, particularly from the inside. That being said... the idea that the very wealthy old white men that own like 99.9% of everything about the NFL and grew up in the south are secretely trying to help democrats get elected is so stupid that only a magat could believe it.
I doubt it's rigged. The rich bastards profiting off it aren't affected significantly one way or the other by the game's actual results, they're still making fat stacks off ticket sales, licensing, and merchandising.
I actually prefer the episode of UFC where they directly inhibit blood from reaching the brain with a deft little neck squeeze. Much neater way to near death a man.
criticism deserved, but I think they're making good faith efforts. Educating players on the signs and encouraging them to report when a teammate is showing them, better helmets/tech, a third-party neuro trauma specialist who has the authority to remove players from the game, and lots of other safety protocols
They've actually done an incredible job of educating players, coaches, trainers, etc. on concussions. They've made rule changes to help protect players, new equipment, R&D, etc. The reality is - concussions will always be part of football and most sports.
True but it is part of the sport.. nobody is forcing people to play it. To solve the head trauma problem, I think football just needs to go away or it needs to be changed so much that it’d be almost a different game. If you choose to play the sport, make it to the nfl, then you are aware of what’s at stake. Let people do what they want. If it’s their passion then so be it.
There is also still racism, initially most of the higher ups supported Kaepernick kneeling but when all the bigots lost their shit didnt they make it against the rules to kneel? Fining and punishment of black players by mostly white team "owners" and management for daring to protest. I'm pretty sure this didnt resolve to a progressive outcome... lots of work still to do.
I would love to see this happen. Stadium mostly empty the first quarter, second quarter stands fill up with teenage/20 something women, third everyone dissappears again.
Up until the Lions lost, I had been joking that if the Lions and Chiefs were to both go, they should cancel Usher and just do an Eminem vs Taylor Swift halftime show. Could legitimately have been awesome.
Average price for a T-Swizzle concert ticket is $1011, Average resale ticket is $3801. There are more than a few stories of people unloading tickets for $5k+ and people buying plane tickets and tickets to see her in Mexico city because tickets were sold out in the US.
Still far below the average price for a superbowl ticket, but she was selling these tickets for this price while doing 151 shows and screening it at theaters as well, which is wild. Don't underestimate swifties.
Fuck that. I could buy a decent used car or I could watch wealthy people run around playing grabass over a ball for a little while. Hard choice to make.
Successful woman who has her own views and beliefs, neither of them are far right enough to be anti vax or pro racism, that is enough for the current USA right wing to hate them.
Singer has supported some dems before, doesn't support Trump. Player is an advocate for the covid vaccine, so much so that another player referred to him as "Mr. Pfizer" (Pfizer being one of the companies producing the vaccine in the US) as though it's an insult (not here to debate). So the right sees this as a power couple that are anti-right, that's my take on it.
Hoping to eradicate differing opinions and view points by any means necessary. Again, just my take. The whole border thing just makes think they're ready to shoot.
I think people are playing this up more than it is. I don't think it's political. Fans are just stick of reading, hearing, seeing TSwift in the middle of their football shows/highlights/social media, etc. And a lot of people are just sick of watching the Chiefs win. It's like Brady and the Pats - people hate them because they are so good. People like seeing new teams get to the Super Bowl. People who follow football have been inundated with TSwift for the past 10+ weeks.
that definitely does describe some group of people, but there’s a whole other group that is furious for all the political reasons described in the post and the comments
How is any of that on Taylor? She's not allowed to be at the game and have a good time? Get mad at the camera people for putting her on camera. She's just living her life.
I never said it was Taylor's fault. It's obvious the NFL wants to push this to get more eyes on the sport and media outlets are gobbling this up on pre and post game shows and on social media to get clicks. I just provided another view on it - as I don't think it's 100% political. Sorry for a different view/opinion.
I disagree. It's not always about politics and picking sides. Some hardcore fans want to tune into the football game and hear about - football. Not about what Taylor's wearing today. The NFL/media are promoting it for their own gain ($$$).
Have you been following the NFL for the past 10 weeks? It's all over everything. Pre-game shows, post-game shows, social media, non-sports media/news. It's a lot more than just in-game stuff.
Just to clarify - I have no issue with it. I love TSwift. I am sick of the Chiefs winning though. They are just so good, but I love watching new teams win and get their chance.
Taylor swift accounted for less than .5% of the chiefs game. Only people who are tired of it are grossly misrepresenting how much she’s shown. Likely due to some subtle and overt feelings towards women
What you may be missing are the segments on her in the pre-game and post-game show. Then all the coverage she gets on sports social media. Oh - and it's been on-going for the past 2-3 months (feels like non-stop, but I'm exaggerating). I don't personally have an issue with it - but I can see how some would. I think a lot of casuals commenting on this don't really see the whole picture.
I literally said "I don't personally have an issue with it" right in my post - so no, it's not my problem. I love TSwift and I don't follow football close enough to have been annoyed by it (too much). I was just providing an alternative point of view - I don't think everyone who's complaining about seeing TSwift is doing it b/c of political views.
You see, all the boys that like to play dress up as their favorite sports hero, found out one of them has a girlfriend, and girls are icky! Now they're upset, because he's probably gonna hang out with her instead of driving to their house to throw the ball around with them. So unfair!
To the best of my understanding: Taylor Swift was been encouraging her fans to register and vote. The issue is that her fans learn left/liberal. This has the right/conservatives upset. A big section of Pro-Footbal (America football, not soccer) are right/conservative leaning. Taylor is dating a pro-football player, so she been at games. They feel like the liberals are invading their space... or something like that... I think.
Pretty much. Though, if conservatives plan on taking on the cultural force that is Taylor Swift directly....they might have finally bit off more than they can chew. American Millenials f*cking LOVE Taylor Swift, and there's more of us now than Boomers.
The ironic part is that her encouraging people to vote regardless of who they vote for is only partisan because Republicans made it partisan themselves. They're the ones who chose voter suppression to be a core tenet of their party. But of course that's how it usually goes: they pick something non-political, make it political, and then complain about politicization.
How many of them have said that if more people voted, Republicans would never win? It's like, they know what the problem is, while failing to see how they are responsible for it.
conservatives HATE taylor swift because she encourages young people to vote and has significant influence amongst young women. they seriously believe the NFL rigged the championships so here boyfriends team would be in the superbowl and that she's gonna brainwash all the youth into voting for biden. we hate it here, we are not ok, please send help.
Yeah Chicago minorities though. Also the two teams that are always in it are in it. It was an interesting season with the most boring matchup imaginable
Only thing to say for sure is they certainly are loud. Hard to tell if there are any meaningful numbers behind it. It's mostly the incel types, you know how they like to get mad anytime someone other than a straight white dude is talking.
Same people that got upset about M&Ms not being sexy, old Dr Seuss books going out of print, Potatohead as a brand becoming gender neutral, the existence of electric stoves, a trans celeb endorsement of Bud Light, disclaimers before certain culturally insensitive Muppets episodes, LGBT products on shelves at Target, or the whole Barbie movie.
xizar
Ironic because she's a singer, dating a football player. (well, I guess past tense... on all counts.)

You see, all the boys that like to play dress up as their favorite sports hero, found out one of them has a girlfriend, and girls are icky! Now they're upset, because he's probably gonna hang out with her instead of driving to their house to throw the ball around with them. So unfair!
ZeRootOfAllEvil
From a Brit, Republicans hate women?
kitkatbirb
To make this short- yes.
Ay666nos
Thanks for this question, I was wondering the same :)
RedTwoX
To the best of my understanding: Taylor Swift was been encouraging her fans to register and vote. The issue is that her fans learn left/liberal. This has the right/conservatives upset. A big section of Pro-Footbal (America football, not soccer) are right/conservative leaning. Taylor is dating a pro-football player, so she been at games. They feel like the liberals are invading their space... or something like that... I think.

Awww, do they need a safe space? Hey, where have I heard that term before?
TakeAChillPill16
Pretty much. Though, if conservatives plan on taking on the cultural force that is Taylor Swift directly....they might have finally bit off more than they can chew. American Millenials f*cking LOVE Taylor Swift, and there's more of us now than Boomers.

Gosh - someone is going through downvoting every comment! Hello little chap - whatever it is that makes you happy, you keep on doing it.
PrastaryOrk
That's the downvote fairy!
BastardMan1977
It's a little maga chud hiding behind their downvotes like the coward they are
PurpleSquare713
Conservatives are upset because Taylor Swift encouraged her fans to register to vote. Not WHO to vote for, just to register to vote.
YpsilantiRomani
Yeah sort of I don't even fallow any of this TS stuff but I did see video of her talking to her team https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8mmdc8&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjMlsPOr4OEAxXPFFkFHX-2BCcQtwJ6BAgGEAE&usg=AOvVaw1Ua1Z6ZFpIwFqC4dMeFCs5

The audacity...
fformulaa
How dare she have a love life and political opinion. Wish i had pearls to clutch
Gryphonosiris
And because she refused to back their Aryan nation fantasies.
MeekrabJones
The ironic part is that her encouraging people to vote regardless of who they vote for is only partisan because Republicans made it partisan themselves. They're the ones who chose voter suppression to be a core tenet of their party. But of course that's how it usually goes: they pick something non-political, make it political, and then complain about politicization.
DukeDarkwood
How many of them have said that if more people voted, Republicans would never win? It's like, they know what the problem is, while failing to see how they are responsible for it.
MeekrabJones
They know they're responsible for it, they just hate admitting it. That's why they'd rather stop people from voting than correct their behavior.
CapitalNick
They're real good at making stuff up then blaming it on Democrats.
m4uboy
conservatives HATE taylor swift because she encourages young people to vote and has significant influence amongst young women. they seriously believe the NFL rigged the championships so here boyfriends team would be in the superbowl and that she's gonna brainwash all the youth into voting for biden. we hate it here, we are not ok, please send help.
InsertTabA
It's called compulsory preferential voting and fair electoral boundaries, but I may as well be suggesting a pixie dust enema.
Jalopenis
Thoughts and prayers
BastardMan1977
Note: She never tells people who to vote for, only to vote, and that's what pisses the maga crowd off the most
sunyudai
They do know that they lose when voter turnout is high.
2graves
Yeah Chicago minorities though. Also the two teams that are always in it are in it. It was an interesting season with the most boring matchup imaginable
2graves
Vocal! Vocal minorities!
skipweasel
Thanks - that is...rather odd. Is this a tiny vocal few, or quite a common thing?
Raziel420
The vocal few being the leadership of the GOP so very loud voices.
TheSupremeCrabMaster
Tiny but loud few. The kind of folks who stopped watching after their team got a black quarterback.
HiVizDiver
Only thing to say for sure is they certainly are loud. Hard to tell if there are any meaningful numbers behind it. It's mostly the incel types, you know how they like to get mad anytime someone other than a straight white dude is talking.
m4uboy
as a rule they are smaller in numbers and more outspoken than the general populace, so it can be difficult to tell. but it seems to be a lot of them.
Illithidbane
Same people that got upset about M&Ms not being sexy, old Dr Seuss books going out of print, Potatohead as a brand becoming gender neutral, the existence of electric stoves, a trans celeb endorsement of Bud Light, disclaimers before certain culturally insensitive Muppets episodes, LGBT products on shelves at Target, or the whole Barbie movie.
riderofthepurplesage
A common thing for those who would have trump king.
