The vibe that was brought vs the vibe we need

IDK about other cities but in Houston we were just trying to stay alive. It was 95 degrees with high humidity. I'm built like a polar bear and was wearing an inflatable so I lasted about an hour. I had ice water in my camel back and it was gone in 10 minutes. If there was a party vibe, I was unaware, mostly because my glasses were completely sweat covered and I couldn't see anything through the little window.

to be clear, i absolutely love the protest. But how much are they expecting to get done by having a giant dance party?

Protests have economic impacts. Police cost money. Traffic disruptions and business closures have economic costs. You also have a building solidarity movement - more people turn up each time. And they talk to each other. And they make plans together.

Protest is one of the most effective ways of influencing policy, actually.

One perspective is the protest isn’t for the one being protested yet, but to those standing idly by. A pebble starts a landslide. In June 5million participated, in October 7million. It takes ~3.5% of the population to care to sway the rest (~11.5million). Without action there can be no reaction. The means of altering our timeline yet to be determined, but until then, grow. Peaceful protests promote engagement with low risk of arrest on the march to 3.5+% Unfocused destruction harms the effort.

And they don’t fuckin care. It’s a joke. You know what’s ACTUALLY effective?? GENERAL STRIKES, ROLLING BOYCOTTS, RIOTS, etc. This fuckin shit is actually harmful and makes us look like a bunch of whiney clowns. Great job dipshits.

It's a show of numbers

This is us saying:
Do y'all REALLY want to fuck with all of us?

They absolutely will respond and their response determines our next move

This is just human dynamics

Oooh yeah, you can tell how scared they are when the president posts an ai video of himself in a crown literally shitting over the protests. They’re super duper scared….

All protests are threats. "This is what we want, this is us being peacful. Look how many of us are willing to physically show up for this cause. Don't make us get more physical than this." They're also to encourage those who are scared or tired. "we care about this enough to show up. You'll be safe if you do too. you have allies."

It's been a long time since we've had to act on the threats of protests, but don't be the idiot who thinks they're meaningless (or continue being a troll IDC)
