Axe Restoration

Picked up an old felling axe at a local car boot sale, paid £6 for it.

Its a 4 1/2 pounder but no brand, pretty rusty.

Cleaned up amazingly however, I mostly used wire brushes with a brief hit with a sander.

Started putting an edge on it, previously it was a very wonky blade, bits of it were several mm out of alignment so, it too a while with my stones.

Fairly happy with the result though, it was my first time sharpening an axe or freehand sharpening, there are improvements which could be made, but I figure it will be fine for trees.

then decided I didn't want the edge to get knocked so started making a cover for it.

All in, pretty happy with this axe considering the total cost of £6 + time & stuff I had lying about. It may need a new handle, the existing one is pretty old. I sanded it mildly and re-oiled it but it was pretty dry so it's probably not going to last too long in use.
