She (or he) couldn't walk and was laying on the sidewalk. She didn't look injured so I took her back to our apartment and decided to see if I could help the little guy out.

I looked online and read that you can give them 30/70 honey water and if they should get better. Here she is eating it with her proboscis looking tounge!

After a few minutes she started walking alot more and eventually flew off! Hurray, I saved a bee!

All Creatures are Precious... Well Done.

those bees usually cant fly because theyre too cold in the time of the day, after they warm up in the sun they can fly off

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I saved a bumble bee last summer, 3 day's later one landed on my shoulder. I like to think it was the same one just dropping in to say 1/

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"sup", but I doubt it. Either way, we had a moment and then it flew off to do bumble bee stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

well done. We gotta save the bees, no bees=no plants=no O2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's a she. The only time you'll see Malle bees out of the nest is carpenter bees.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Also that is my guess too. It didnt have any pollen on the legs.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Queens mate by flying through swarms of drones to collect semen. Drones are also expelled from the colony during winter to conserved honey

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You are thinking eusocial bees, which most bees arent. Male bees are very commonly seen outside of the nest.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What is a Malle bee?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The opposite of a she-Malle bee

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Done that a few times but wit sugar water mix. Bee was ok after a few hours every time

I found a bumblebee that seemed the same, I wish I'd known this was what I should do.

Sometimes by the time you come along they're already too far gone. I found one on my porch once and gave her sugar water to drink, but she

2007: stay away from bees. 2017: literally pick up bees and bring them back to your apartment for some milk n' honey.

Good job bro we need bees.

Little known fact John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" was originally titled "Give Bees a Chance". That's entirely made up.

Did this before , but didn't have the balls to let it sit on my hand , BBQ tongs and a spoon of honey water ... Your welcome bee :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dehydration usually give it some water and it probably fly off

My house has Africanized bees in the yard and they come in swarms. Makes you scared to work in the yard due to them being aggressive.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Okay...pretty sure I'd fucking move.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What do you do on this situation? They're invasive, why not kill them? WITH FIRE!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honey can contain spores or viruses. Sugar water is safer.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's literally what bees eat in the wild.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Except it could be different varieties than what they're exposed to. An analogy would be the diseases the Spanish brought to the Aztecs.

Good point.

Everybody's gotta save somethin' now.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They're dying at an alarming rate, you know

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's the honey bees that need saving, but a bumble bee is good practice!

9 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

Do they not make honey?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do earwigs make chutney?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Earwigs, ew!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They also need saving, they also pollinate.

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

It didn't help that my gf is afraid of all bees (and big flys that sound like bees) she didnt really want to come in the kitchen during!

9 years ago | Likes 442 Dislikes 0

Don't wife her. She is weak and will ruin your bloodline.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

I am also scared of bees but I don't kill them. I just try to get someone else who isn't scared of them to put them outside

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I kill carpenter bees because they do structural damage to my house.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

there are organizations that will relocate your bees or give them to a keeper instead of killing them

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Carpenter bees aren't as critical right now as they do little pollination

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The noise of buzzing insects is one of my least favorite noises in the entire world. Your GF isn't alone!!

9 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 1

Bees are cool. We were sat under our cherry Tree this afternoon and the sound of buzzing was amazing. Not bothered once.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

It's calming. I love carpenter bees the most. Honeybees are cool. Wasps and hornet's have always been a jerk around these parts though

Need more details. How do you know that?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Count the antennal segments, males have an odd number, females even :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In all colonial insects the average workers are females.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've heard that only female bumblebee can sting you, and only if you were very annoying. Is that truth?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes only the sterile female workers and the queen can sting. The workers are unlikely to sting you but can multiple times unlike honeybees

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

30/70 what? 30% honey, right?

9 years ago | Likes 396 Dislikes 2

30% honey, 70% water

I've done this for bros of the exoskeleton persuasion but I just put honey in ine and water in another tiny container.

I've recently started using expressions about "___s of the ___ persuasion lately", have an updoot

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You should not feed bees honey unless it came from its own colony, please use sugar water to prevent spreading disease among them

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

30% honey, 70% meth

Shite, I tried helping out out with water and sugar. No wonder it wasnt interested.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good to know.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And a little bourbon.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Damn here I was thinking alcohol volume. I was thinking 70 proof was awful strong for a bee, but who am I to judge?

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

I've heard that you're supposed to use sugar, and not honey. Idk why. Probably tumbler propaganda.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I believe honey is the product they make for the larva, so sugar would be more appropriate for adult bees. Plus, most honey gets additives.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think it's because honey comes from different hives and can have foulbrood bacteria which will be brought back the hive and destroy it.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Exactly that. Use Water and sugar and mix until it becomes a syrup.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congratulations on taking a chance on getting stung, to help out a living thing that was suffering.

9 years ago | Likes 442 Dislikes 11

Pretty sure this type doesnt have a stinger. They can bite though!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of the only insects i have never been stung by. Had em come at me but never sting. Even run into em but not sting.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

You could pet one if you distract it with honey

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought drones don't have stingers?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That looks like a drone. If so, it doesn't have a stinger.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have never been stung by a bee. As long as you don't freak out and swat them they will usually get back to beesness pollinating stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I always hate it when someone else doesn't understand this, and starts flapping and screaming. It's their fault if anyone gets stung.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fear isn't rational though

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's hard when they do the thing where you don't see them until they're 3 inches from your face and they startle you

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to deflate OP's heroism, but yeah, super rare for them to sting, and usually only if you go out of your way to provoke them.

9 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

OP is still a hero.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even regular bees don't really sting often, but yeah bumblebees are extra chill.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I provoked one. It gave it's life to remind me not to spaz when they buzz around my face.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Bumblebees rarely sting in my experience.

9 years ago | Likes 205 Dislikes 0

I agree, I used to let them walk on me when I was a small kid

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very true. But when you handle 10 of them at once, you should know that if one stings, they all sting. I can't tell you how I know that...

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

first time i ever got stung was a bumble bee. those fuckers hurt.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have no issues with bees. As long as you're calm and don't provoke them with swatting at then etc you're fine. Wasps however.. fuck those

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm allergic, so definitely something I shouldn't do. So good on ya for those of use who can't!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Wow. I must be unlucky. I've been stung 4 times by those suckers.

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

Me too. 5 stings on one hand. My hand doubled in size.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely unlucky / clumsy. Bumblebees are the one species that have never stung me. Very calm / non-hostile compared to all others.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I find that people that panic, run around, or flail their arms get stung. Remain calm and you're usually fine.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I accidently sat on one while playing outdoors :|

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

maybe you should stop cutting a hole into the top of their hive and shitting inside

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never ever stung me, and I live next door to a clover patch.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless you're literally punching their nest they won't sting you, you're probably thinking of wasps

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How?!

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Dude I got stung under my nose by a bumble bee

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, was it definitely a bumble bee? They just buzz aggressively at me. I've only been stung by bald-faced hornets and wasps. Those things

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

don't need sugar water, they are permanently fueled by condensed hate.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I have the luck of stepping on them barefooted

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Happened to me too, saved one from drowning in a pool, poor thing panicked...
