I make a lot of Asian and Indian food, sometimes spending hours making my own sauces and prepping ingredients, and it seems like no matter how I plate it, it just looks like a pile of shit on rice :( anyone have any plating advice? I appreciate you!!

For one you gotta get good looking plates. Second don't show off your shitty military surplus silverware. Also the angle is a big factor.

All my stuff is from target lol, the plates are large heavy square white ones. I mean they're not insanely fancy, but they're $5 per plate

Plating advise? If the material is a steel. Use copper. Then you grind the surfaces before putting it in the furnace for carb case depth

Mold your rice into a container.... round square whatever, doesnt even need to be sticky rice, turn onto a plate. The protein(1/?)

(2/?) If in a sauce on a side of the rice. If only those 2 things on the plate run the back of a spoon (or fork if thick enough) on the

Nahhh, your food just looked so pretty and delicious as it is, I couldn't think of any other improvements to your plate, it's perfect!

"Asian" dishes isn't served over rice, it's accompanied w/ it. Simple white plate or bowl, don't pile, ample lighting a simple garnish.

Agreed, although I didn't say separate rice and main. Accompanied also means, next too.

OP I'm simply suggesting if you wish to display your delicious food whichever cuisine you are featuring these are the steps you may consider

I think it depends on what kind of asian. Japan serve thwyre curry next to rice not in a seperate bowl. Phillipines is alot of sharing/1

So the food is usually in one big bowl, but once its on a plate its all mixed together!

My chef is from the Philippines so I tend to copy his style ^.^

Place the protein in a cup. Then overturn cup on plate and remove cup. Boom! Shaped food.

So make, say a square, with the rice, then over turn the cup on top?

1) For the rice, better left au natural (spread over the surface), in a bowl, or half plated. As mentioned above, form the protein from..

2)a bowl mold and/or place onto the vacant part of the plate. Use the garnish to trail from protein to rice to provide a visual link.

You could shape the rice but you might need specific molds to make it work. Could look tacky
