Edit: ICE CREAM MACHINES. Not coffee machines. I'm an idiot.
The reason why the machines are always broken is because the company that makes their ice cream machines, Taylor, have part of the contract where only they are authorized to repair the machines. It is illegal for McDonalds franchises to fix their machines on their own. This is part of the broader regulatory changes where the FTC is using anti-trust laws and the Magnusson Moss Warranty Act to let consumers and industry/enterprises access to tools, service manuals, and parts to repair their own stuff

A mom and pop company made an add-on device that made it crazy easy to decipher all the bullshit, often undocumented codes these machines give off, and they got tf sued outta them, trying to stop them from making it. They lost and now mom and pop can sell their easy-repair device.

I always heard that most of them weren't really broken, the franchise just didn't budget hours to clean them properly (requires partial disassembly to clean out) so they were "broken" by virtue of being neglected. This... this won't fix that.

This wasn't true in my ~5 years in a few locations. Since the machines required a breakdown and clean every 14 days, we just had someone block out a Sunday morning to alternate cleaning both.
Getting someone out there was a pain in the ass and could take a couple days when it actually did break, we wouldn't have fucked the machines up on purpose.

I feel if they can’t find the time to partially disassemble the machines to clean them, they certainly won’t have the time, expertise, or parts to repair them when they do break.

A kitchen employee at a hospital where I worked said the machine required careful cleaning to prevent contanimation and employees couldn't necesarily be expected do it consistently as we hired a certain number of staff with intellectual disabilities.... Hence our cafeteria did not offer soft serve, in spite of many requests for it.

Magnusson Moss Warrantee act needs a lot of attention these days. I miss when there was a Chiltons manual (or similar) for every car on the road, sure would be nice to have that just for the trim and wiring on my current car.

I miss that shit so much. I had a Haynes repair manual for a Jeep Cherokee I had. I didn't know jack shit about cars but with that guide I fixed my own shit, saved a bunch of money, and learned a lot of cool stuff. Replaced a drive shaft, fixed transmission wiring, replaced a Transfer case, an Intake manifold, and a radiator with nothing but a borrowed jack and a set of ratchets. Now most of that stuff requires proprietary tools or the computers in your engine lock down your car.

Taylor gives McDonald’s cheap prices on equipment and because of this, Taylor earns almost 50% of its revenue to repair charges to the franchise owners, they both win, at least that’s how I recall it going on the documentary I saw about this on YouTube…I could be wrong…

He United America's allies after those alliances have been deeply damaged by the previous administration and he constantly outmanovered the Republicans all while not having a majority in the house.
