We always plant sunflowers. Lots of sunflowers!
A friend saved a turtle from the middle of the road and dropped him off in our backyard. He was returned to a safer part of the woods.
This bed gets filled with these flowers. This was the first to make a showing.
One of the less cute creatures in the back yard. Quick, creepy, and not welcome in the garden!
The chickens love it when I dig up some snacks.
One of our ducks. When they were too young to be out in the cold they got regular bathtub swims.
Here they are hanging in the warmer weather.
Their album cover.
One of our chickens., Tigey. She was the sweetest of the the three hatchlings. Sadly, fell victim to a hawk.
Probably the biggest mantis I’ve seen. Always welcome in our garden!
Dog tax. She’s a softy and a good girl.

what's the bug?

It’s called a wireworm. It’s the larvae of a click beetle. As larvae they eat seeds and roots. Damaging to lots of garden plants.

Aww man, I really want chickens, but the eagles make me think twice.

Yeah. We got too comfortable with them free ranging. Their coop has a small covered run. When they’re out, we’re out. The dog, too.
