My college had a glass studio. It's really fucking hard. At the end of a semester I had three lopsided cups and I use them for toothbrushes

it's pretty easy to do the shaping. the hard part is keeping the piece from exploding as it cools.

There's two kinds of glass, soft and borosilicate. Boro is much harder than soft glass (and I'm not sure you can blow with it?)

You can. Flameworkers use boro. Glassblowers use soft. Flameworkers can also use soft glass though depending on their skill level

I accidentally touched the rod while doing this, had to hold my hand under cold water for a solid 20 minutes. Super fun though.

In chemistry class we had to make glass stirring rods. I burned myself so many times the teacher felt bad and gave me an A anyways.
