Making a deal involves the other side agreeing to the terms & both sides abiding by them over time -- neither of which have we seen since he broke Obama's agreement with Iran. We had a goddamn working deal, the strait was open to all, UN inspectors were routinely verifying the results of their nuclear waste disposal & everything was working as planned until pedodent dumbass decided he had to stuff his tiny wiener in the world's oil pipeline keyhole.

As usual, Trump thinks that agreeing to what the substance of negotiations will be about, is “a deal is near.” Last I understood, Iran is still effectively claiming that the strait of Hormuz is an internal waterway that they will regulate, and charge for, and have stated that discussions about uranium could be weeks/months away

The deal is not done, the statement is real. The part about Obama is half truths and lies, the problem was created by Trump himself when he tore up the treaty signed by Obama. Screwed the entire world because he thought he could take Iran in three days. Wants a bigger payoff to stop.

Obama did, in fact, give Iran millions of dollars in cash and gave them a deal where they basically pinky swore not to make a nuke as long as we pinky swore to let them sell things to europe. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/investigating-obama-administrations-400-million-payment-iran nominally this was "reparations" for when the US responded to Iran overthrowing its government by not following through on a deal it made with the now-nonexistent government. it was also transparently a bribe.

As with most things in diplomacy, there was an abundance of trust involved in this agreement, which is no doubt why Trump, whose brain is incapable of trusting his own bowels from shitting his pants, immediately renegged on the deal.

Calling the JCPOA a “pinky swear” ignores that Iran dismantled centrifuges, shipped out enriched uranium, and accepted the most intrusive nuclear inspections in the world. The $400M wasn’t a “gift” — it was Iran’s own pre-1979 money tied up in a legal dispute the U.S. was likely to lose anyway. You can argue the timing made it look like ransom, but pretending it was simply Obama handing terrorists cash for promises is propaganda, not history.

Because that's literally how EVERY government operates, the only way to believe anything ANY government says is through trust. The US, for example, leaves certain planes governed by nuclear disarmament treaties to rust in the open so that satellites can see them there...but they COULD be still building those planes in secret.

For a great example of how you can't rely on government's "proving" their supposed innocence on a subject, look at the US' attitude about hacking. In the 90s and earlier the official narrative from the US government was "we do not hack other countries"
Now the US cyber attacks on foreign nations are talked about openly and described as "good ackshually." And if you look into the declassified documents, the US government was hacking people the whole time they said they weren't, too.

Well, we got to pick the inspectors, and the locations. It's one of the most surveilled countries in the world. And you can't exactly put a centrifuge in the back of the broom closet and store your material in a shoebox. Hiding fissible material isn't exactly easy. Between safety equipment and radiation its pretty detectable. So again, not about trust. It's about watching what they were doing, getting eyes (that we picked) on the ground (in locations we picked) .
