It's like Hell on earth

The Kincade fire as of this evening, 10/27

The yellow gridded area is the outline of the current fire border, almost 55,000 acres. This morning it was *only* 30,000 acres and 10% contained. It's been incredibly windy, with winds 70 mph and higher, causing what they call "spotting* which is when the embers of a current fire float off and ignite another fire nearby.

As you can see here, the red area is the fire zone but the purple area are the mandatory evacuation zones. As a result, schools are closed, shelters are being set up whenever possible, many roads are closed, and air quality is terrible.

Speaking of air quality, this is also as of tonight. I love this website, www.purpleair.com where you can check air quality near you. While the fires are not pictured on this map, they are much higher, you can see the effect the high winds have had on air quality south of where the fires are located. The winds have pushed the smoke and particles down to where I live, making it quite hard to breath. Glad I still have some spare n95 masks from the Camp Fire we had last year...

I couldn't find any impressive photos of the Kincade fire, they're all pretty much vegatation fires and home burnt to the ground. However, this was another separate fire south of the Kincade Fire in Vallejo Ca. This was taken at the Carquinez Bridge on the North side.

And just for fun, PG&E recognized the fact that the Camp Fire last year that destroyed the entire city of Paradise, was caused by faulty line equipment. So guess what their response was? They decided to proactively shut off power for up to 1 million customers. Lotta good that did, considering the Kincade fire was likely caused by them yet again. I'm grateful I still have power where I am, but theres several power grids in my city that have been shut off, causing loss of income and possibly loss of assets if grocery stores didnt pack up their perishables in time. I went into my local 99 Ranch Market yesterday and they were frantically going row by row packing up boxes of frozen and refrigerated foods to try to save what they could and move it to storage elsewhere.

As of right now PG&E is planning on restoring power by tomorrow (Monday) morning, but the bad news is that given the upcoming weather, they will likely shut off power yet again Tuesday to Thursday.

I sincerely hope everyone in California right now stays safe, has access to food and resources, and hope the losses taper off. It's sad to see so much being destroyed like this...
