I don’t have it to “the gif” out. Maybe stick around for a few more boob shot memes and then I’ll quietly turn off the lights, lock the doors, and put the app to bed.

I just don’t have anywhere to go after this. There is elbodeeps discord. Maybe something else will pop up. Feels like my favorite community bar is closing and all the inside jokes will be lost to time.

Checking, but do people remember when Digg was "the front page of the Internet" and investors did something like insist on a lot of crappy ads? Everyone responded by submitting Reddit posts en masse and helped make Reddit was it is today.

Might be a worthy successor in the works, here's hoping it's a new home for all us displaced imgurians https://www.imgcat.io/

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

11 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Imgur is dying but that only seems to make people use it more with this titty trend that's going on, also with the middle finger trend. It's edgy sure, but people are increasing traffic to imgur, not decreasing it, so medialab wins. That's not how protesting works. You have to log out and not come back. You have to not use it in order to win you cowards. Don't bitch out on the 1st, hell, get an early start.

And Bront

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thankfully there seem to be some decent replacements on the horizon like discuit.

Glad you aren't falling for the sunk cost fallacy.

11 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

I couldn't agree more. Thank you all for the wonderful times we had. Maybe I will see you on Bluesky!

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omg I am loving the boobs. Imgur should just stay and boobur it's great honestly it's great. I should create my own platform. For taste full boobs

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've been here since 2013, this is my second account. It is so strange to think how much time Ive spent here and now uts over

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Imgur died a long time ago. We've just been hanging around for after hours. I know this account is new, but I've been here for 10 years... millions of meaningless points. It fucking sucks.

It’s been a really long ongoing weekend at Bernie’s scenario

Now you know why it was hard for people to leave xhitter.

We saw the black bruising on its hands a couple years ago but preferred to believe there was life left in the body. The whole world dies in front of us as we age and this too will become nothing more than a pleasant memory.
Brave the unknown no matter how lonely the journey friend.

I've been a user for more than a decade, almost a decade on this specific account. I don't use it much anymore because the content I like to consume has changed, and the discussions I like to participate in don't really happen here anymore. I still pop in to lurk, but I miss the old days. I'll always be an imgurian, and I try to bring the vibe wherever I go. This is my internet home even though I'm an expat, I love you all <3

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I came to Imgur because the Lolbrary died. You're gonna be okay.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sad that it end without the Epstein files being released

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Things aren't beautiful because they last. I am privileged to have memed among everyone.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At best the internet has about a decade left before we all get bored with it and go back outside.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why am I seeing boobies everywhere? I'm not complaining, I'm just asking why

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Users finally cracked the shits with the venture-capitalist owners' gross mismanagement, staff layoffs, site/app negligence, ham-fisted attempts at AI moderation, and cynical penny-pinching corporate bullshit. General goal appears to be having a bit of fun while overloading the moderation system and tanking ad revenue.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aaaaah. least they aren't posting gore or something icky like that.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It'd almost be a mercy killing at this point, honestly.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oh, don't be so fucking dramatic. Imgur is not going anywhere. While this is all fun, it's a pointless exercise. Just enjoy the hot chicks with fish posts and log on back in tomorrow. People will get bored and the site will go back to lame ol' political posts and negativity in no time...

Yep, I was going to post this too

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get most of my laughs from imgur. To be really honest- it's usually where I find breaking news. I have to be honest- when I'm exhausted from work- it's where I waste too much time...but I'll gladly keep wasting time if imgur sticks around

11 months ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

Same

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If push comesto shove, we can all stay conne ted through some imgurians like Ellie and BottomShelfVodka. If an alternative appears, we can find it. Idk about imgurian presence in Mastodon, but it could be an option for a while.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it's only over when it's over. I'm not going anywhere. Don't know why people are evacuating.

11 months ago | Likes 182 Dislikes 15

*looks at the last 7 days* Yeah wow, it’s a mystery why anyone would want to leave that.

11 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

I'll leave when I get banned. I like checking out what's on the front page and in user sub almost daily

11 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Same!

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

People are evacuating because they don't want to support a greedy company. Boycotting. People are tired of rich people walking all over their hard work, their sand castles. Predatory business practices thrive on people that want to rebuild the castle in the same place. Isn't that sad? Why should we support that hyoer capitalist nonsense?

I'm looking for alternatives for those reasons. It is sad but change can be good.

But there is no shame in staying. I'm just explaining why some are leaving.

11 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Ships never sink until they are sunk. I'm not going anywhere. Don't know why people are evacuating, we only hit that iceberg 10 minutes ago, and the lean the ship is on makes my chair feel like a recliner

11 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Same thing happened years ago, well not the same thing but same outrage. People got over it in about 10 days. Just the current hot thing to be mad about. Mob mentality, everyone wants to feel like they "did something" or they just want the points. People will leave. New people will join and back to the memes we will be lol

11 months ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 8

It's the community itself that is destructive honestly.. the whole "break some rules" and spamming of boobs.. what has that accomplished? It pushes people like me away because I don't want to see that nor do I want to open Imgur in public.. so what did that solve? It made people leave. Just to what..? Try to get back at this business that didn't really do much? Like you said, it's all just to be mad about something and act like they were part of something.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I just hope that after this there are still creators left and they're not all US political posts like it's been for years now..

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I am pretty sure users have been leaving for years.

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

After that... And people left and new people joined... The numbers didn't balance though. It lost, after replacements, over 200 million users.
The 80 million we are at now isn't active users, it's unique hits. People who comment, post or vote are a FRACTION of that 80million, create and curate the things people come to see, and are the people who leave
Content has been going down because each time this happens it is creators that leave, and this site creates nothing on its ownn

11 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Oh shit those numbers weren't active accounts but just unique click to the site? Jesus fuck that's much worse than I was thinking.

Can't wait for the alt sites being developed to go live.

I hate the “Everything must come to an end” and “Nothing last forever” stuff. I’ve learned to deal with it, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it. I’m sticking around until the lights go off. I’ve really enjoyed the effort our community has shown the past 4 days, and will ride out the wave until it crashes on the beach.

11 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I think a lot of it is a loss of culture. And a loss of service. Losing notifications, the constant little bugs such as needing to keep hitting the volume on and off to let you hear the gif. On top of the agitation with feeling helpless over the world wars and politics all help push us over the edge. Honestly, Imgur is probably the only social media that would actually revolt given the concentrated fringe personality we have.

11 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I think you are right; the way the world is a mess right now and out in physical space it feels like protests are futile against the rising tide of authoritarianism, people are feeling like here they can fight back against an authority and have a real effect.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really haven’t dove into it that much, but apparently https://discuit.org/ is drawing several former imgurians in.

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm not gonna suicide my account either but if things don't improve then it's just a slow drift to never logging in again

11 months ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 4

Definitely not going to suicide my account, but I posted The GIF twice and both are still up, 24+ hours later. I feel like I deserve a fake trophy.

11 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Capitalism has pretty much fucked everything I loved about the internet into oblivion one piece at a time, this one was only ever going to hold out so long. Nothing lasts forever except IRC, it seems.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's what I did, until I heard about the current meltdown and curiosity got the better of me. It's turning out about how I expected it to.

11 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

If they’re really trying to turn it into something like the chive then I will “the gif” my 9yr old account. It makes me sad

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you can literally drop it here and it will not be noticed, as I'm doing.

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why is it not being banned??

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because the totally not AI mods (wink wink) that business daddy says are at work don't look at replies.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why did we replace reddit? :)

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Because the toxic people there

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

this ☝🏽

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's the difference between discuit, vger.app, all the Lemmy nodes?

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm there. Liking it so far.

11 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

How is the App?

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you're familiar with Reddit it's easy to aclimate.

I'd like gif support, and rh ability to add captions to images instead of just alt text but that's it. Both of those are fixable.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

sweet I’ll check it out ! thks!

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So happy to hear that! When I saw what was going on, hurt to see our community here breaking apart and as some of yall have seen, that community aspect is very much alive and well (and being welcomed with open arms) on Discuit

11 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

And it's a site I'm thrilled to financially support.

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Yall found the patreon already? Dang that was fast! Did you also read through some of prevs posts (click his name in the mod section of the main discs) about his dislike for enshitification and why he refuses to follow the same path with funding? Was a key point for me knowing he hasn't wavered on that from day 1. There's a shift in the air, and tech bro vultures ruining sites aren't the only option anymore, and as for me, have the popcorn ready

11 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

It's what convinced me to join and fund. Otherwise as soon as it got popular a tech company would probably snap it up.

Seems like he has a kind of Wikipedia mindset about it, which clearly has been sustainable.

People were super warm on my first day

11 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I love hearing that! When those of us from the previous exodus arrived, it was scary (were we gonna be in a Reddit-style space again where folks yell at you over nothing)? One of the first comments I saw was Koko being her amazing self, and warmly saying hello to all of us terrified newcomers. Reactions like that put so many of us at ease, and became a core part of how we do things now: lead with kindness, and never forget we ourselves were brand new once:)

We are all people behind these screens. Community is what keeps people together.
