Small story time. I was in a very abusive relationship with an alcoholic, when I told him I was leaving , he was crying and all I could feel was relief. I was finally free from all the mental and emotional abuse. All the late nights where he’d come in drunk and insult and scream at me, it’s finally over.

Good for you! Went through a similar situation & had to fake sad to make it possible, as weird as that sounds. Enjoy the free!

Honesty is acceptable in those cases. "I'm not sad. Your drinking makes living with you a constant terror. It's a relief to say good-bye."

Though I would feel sorry for your inbox now

Good riddance

He sounds exactly like my x gf. It's strange how it's easier to stay with the toxic one's longer.

I needed this today.

I feel you. Got out of this kind of relationship a month ago. Living again

Good for you! Sounds like you really didn’t need to pretend to be sad either.

Left my wife a few weeks ago. Nothing but relief and feel amazing. Dropping dead weight always feels good. Congrats!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She was a raging alcoholic as well. Stay strong, the best is yet to come.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was in the same boat. Don’t worry your life will get better.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy shit man. Same thing happened to me last night. It was the last straw. I just told him that I was done. It hurts, tbh, just because

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've honestly never really been alone. But otherwise... You know. I just thought I was gonna marry him but... He had to drink again.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just went through the same but with swapped genders last year. Broke things off with a drunk, abusive gf. Felt so good to be done and out.

Live your best life OP! Congrats!!

Have done this to have a girl stop hitting on me

I just left my own abusive BF. On my birthday, no less. Power to us.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hopefully he gets into AA and gets his shit straight.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

naltrexone

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

They all do. Until that one day they don't. Not saying you should stick around and wait for it to happen ofc.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best of luck. I did the same back in June of 2018. She cheated and I got the fuck out. Alcoholics are tough.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

June of 2018 seems to be a significant point for people to stop giving a fuck. That's when I broke things off too.

As a guy that literally JUST had a breakup... Laura? Is that you?

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Nope

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Well, apparently we're both Canadian. And there's only like 100 people in Canada so I figured it was possible.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Hahahaha

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

So... you're both single?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

And in the same country!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Wait, did you just lowkey admit to being an abusive alcoholic?

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wasn't lowkey at all

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Good for him. That's a major step towards not being one.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Im in the same situation only im 7 months pregnant. Its hard but i have to leave him.

7 years ago | Likes 556 Dislikes 5

Did they all become alcoholics after the pregnancy?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wishing you the best! My sister did the same, with her newborn baby. You don't want to raise a child around that disfunction. You got this!

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If thats not motherly instinct idk what is

7 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

If you are in PHX AZ and need help moving, let me know and I will be there.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

People like you should repopulate the earth.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got my own problems, I just really dislike abusive men and I have a soft spot for single moms(raised by one) so I always try to help.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please leave. I know it's hard but please, go. Because when baby comes he'll likely pick on them instead since they're more vulnerable.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Almost everyone regrets staying in an abusive situation. But no one ever regrets leaving.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I wish I had something other than moral support for you. :/ sounds like you're on the right path!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My sister has a 2 year old and won't leave her abusive babydaddy... 5 times he's broken up with her, but she keeps going back to him... 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

After two years of dealing with all that, it makes me happy to see someone who knows when to walk away :)

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

A friend of mine left her relationship while pregnant. She says it's hard sometimes to be a single parent, but it was the best thing she did

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Leave. If not for you than for your baby. You don’t want that for your baby.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get your ducks in a row and leave. Easy to say, but hard to do IRL. Your baby doesn’t need to have him as a model of a dad

7 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

i dont think the baby will need this dad but at least a male face is needed. i didn't have one and its a big drawback

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Alanon

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please do. I waited too long, and he nearly killed me. It's hard, but you can do it, if not for yourself, then do it for the baby. Trauma 1/

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

In utero does effect the baby, even if it's just yelling. Your stress levels matter to the development of the brain.

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

You will be doing yourself, your baby, and possibly even him a huge favor. This might be the kick he needs to quit. You definitely need to.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same situation as in you're acting out being sad?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not the sad part. Just being in a shitty abusive relationship

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get out!! You don't want your child to be subjected to that bullshit.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you plan to get child support from him?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. He’s not worth it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you have even a sliver of a desire to leave there are many places that help, in most areas.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a cousin who is a social worker. She’s going to let me live with her

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can’t even imagine , hang in there, if you want to talk don’t hesitate

7 years ago | Likes 235 Dislikes 0

Im been afraid of him for so long. Im tired of feeling this way. Im getting help from a cousin to leave.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stay safe. People can become violent. Never be afraid to have police to help you get your things. Congrats on finding your strength.

7 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

I think the point is that they are not going to hang in there.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 11

I don't know. Never met the guy

Me too! ....now being a complete failure is another thing.
