I just watched this video about hybrids. I traded in my shitty, gutless old Chevy Cruze for a '26 Civic hybrid hatchback last week. I'm getting 47-51 mpg and actually have enough power to pass on a two-lane road or merge onto the Interstate without feeling like I'm risking my life. Plus, it's the Touring trim, so I've got leather seats and the fancy stereo and wireless charging (which might come in handy when I upgrade my phone someday). Fuckin' LOVE it. Feels like a spaceship next to the Cruze.

He really has the 'just right' approach on educational videos. Old videos while not bad, were dry and potentially boring as hell, usually with a monotone voice that puts you to sleep. Stuff like Bill Nye and Beakman's World were good, but they went hard into the "jangle keys in your face" approach. With TC, he's right in the sweet spot of educational with just enough humor and interjections to keep things interesting.

Hyrbrids for daily use are the best current form of transportation. Why? Have you seen a 200k mile EV? rare and a literal handful over 400k and even those have had batteries replaced. How many pruis taxi's have over 600k miles? Thousands. The cost to replace major componants in a hybrid like the entire engine and battery are cheaper then replaceing equivalent EV batteries. Added bonus of insane travel distance and you dont have to wait to charge. Can't pass down clapped EVs like a 20yr old camry

The problem is we only have the old EVs to go by, like the first gen Leaf. The batteries could maybe do 1000 cycles and it had a range of about 80mi. Modern batteries will do 3,500 cycles and even at 200mi range that is 700,000miles. Lithium batteries have dropped 90% in cost since the Leaf came out.
600k miles at 50mpg in a Prius(being generous here) burns 12,000 gallons of fuel which weighs 72,000lbs.

Tesla model S came out in 2012. Thats 14 years ago. That is old. it is still over 12k (cheapest) to replace a model S battery. The chevy volt had a 2012 model, so did the RAV4, Honda FIT, all of these had over 120 mile range. Also you will never see ANY of these on the road. The cost to replace a mach e battery starts at 22K, model 3 (smallest EV battery for tesla starts at 11k) The cost to fully replace the engine AND battery in the new 2026 prius is under 10k on the TOP end of price range.

The model S was a luxury vehicle with low sales, and still a first gen EV and has similar batteries to the Leaf, you can find them for sale. The volt is a hybrid, but has a worse layout than the Prius. The Rav4 EV and fit EV are first gen and combined, sold less than Lamborghini does in the US. Picking low sales first gen EVs to support your argument is wild. The new Prius battery replacement is cheaper than a first or second gen because battery costs in general are lower than they were.

There are sampling problems with new EVs because new batteries and new chemistries like LFP(4-8000cycles) last so much longer than NMC(2nd and 1st gen 2-3000cycles) or LMO(1st gen 1000 cycles) batteries.

He'll be thrilled, really. His goal is to help educate people on invasive species and why they are bad and how to eradicate them. My mom was going to buy a weeping willow for her yard and when my son heard about it he put together a presentation on why they are bad and three great alternatives based on her lawn and what she wanted for an outcome. It included what pollinators they attract and what local songbirds benefit. She went with a black willow. He considers that a huge win.

Speaking of that. If you do want powder but the convenience of pods, get Attack washing pods. They are a Japanese brand, they are powder based and are rated highly. I use them because I loved the smell when I was in Japan (smell is different outside of Japan) and found them here in Australia. Love them. There is a guy on YouTube who is a dry cleaner that does testing on them

and run the hot water in the sink first so the washing machine gets hot water on it's first rinse cycle. Taht alone has been a game changer. I now clean the sink first before running the dishwasher, and rinse the sink out until the water is hot.

I haven't seen the video so maybe he addressed it, but it sounds like you're saying we pay a bunch of farmers to grow tons of corn so we can turn it into ethanol. That's not exactly true - we pay a bunch of farmers because farming is usually not that profitable and we don't want them to stop farming, and as a side effect we have tons of extra corn, and ethanol is an easy way to get rid of large amounts of corn while also reducing the amount of oil we need to burn.

and the reason why we got a ton of coal was that the US gov does not subsedivce the farmer per squere feet or farmland but by produce weight/volume and for some reason corn just produce a lot of useless weight/volume that gets subsedized because the gov subsedice is a garanty payment. meaning a farmer can grow let say corn or a potato that is needed but the subsedice for corn is greater then potato and if the potato does not sell its a loss.
